matteo frowned , reaching out for their brother’s arm , “ I’m sorry — I was just so tired , kie … I never wanted to hurt anybody but I couldn’t keep going . ” he was quiet for a moment , dipping his head , “ I didn’t mean to disappoint you , but I also — can’t complain that we’re here because … while I’m sad still , it’s for different reasons and it doesn’t cripple me anymore . I have you still , I have riley , I have — freedom . ” matteo paused , glancing back up at kieran and offering a small smile , “ I know you feel that way too . ”

   ‘  i’m  not  disappointed , ‘ kieran argued as they looked back at matteo . ‘  i’m  sad  but  i’m  not  ...  disappointed . ‘ disappointed wasn’t the word that kieran would use for this situation but they understood where matteo came from . they knew that matteo struggled , that every day was a challenge for him . kieran chewed on their bottom lip before offering a nod , ‘  yeah ,  you’re  definitely  not  wrong  about  that .  it’s  different .  i’m  different  and  as  odd  as  it  sounds ,  i  think  josh  and  i  are  better  for  it . ‘

he opened up the box to study the contents and glanced up at kieran when they spoke again . matteo paused , pressing his lips together for a moment and shrugging , “ this didn’t happen to me , kie — I did this to myself . ” he leaned against the wall and looked them over , “ I feel — sad , but mostly for you guys , for riley … for mom and dad , you know ? ” matteo ran his fingers through his hair , “ I’m kind of — in a constant state of anger when you and riley aren’t around , but other than that — my life isn’t totally different , I was miserable before . ”

    kieran tried not to cringe again at matteo’s answer . they hadn’t wanted this for their brother . they wanted him to live his life , see the world , and do great things with his life but that wasn’t how things turned out . kieran took in a deep breath and ran a hand down their face when matteo mentioned their parents . they had no idea what they were going to do about that when the time came . ‘  yeah , ‘ kieran eventually spoke , ‘ it’s  bittersweet ,  really ,  but  it  could  have  been  worse . ‘

josh shook his head , immediately saddened despite being the one to bring up their father ; he instantly regretted doing so . august may not have been a man to display his emotions , but losing every member of his family was sure to take a toll . joshua’s heart ached for their only living parent , his gaze diverting as sadness finally touched his features , “ I don’t know — I don’t know how long we’re gonna get away with this for … but eventually he may notice neither of us are getting older , or able to leave the property for that matter . ”

      the whole situation was bittersweet . while they had each other and they had kieran and matteo , their father was left with no one . everyone in his family was essentially dead even if he didn’t quite realize it yet although it was no doubt that he would eventually ask questions about them . ‘  what  are  we  supposed  to  do ?  tell  him  the  truth  and  hope  he  doesn’t  think  we’re  batshit  crazy ?  it’s  dad .  he  deals  with  logic  not ... this . ‘

josh rolled onto the step beside them , all too i’m pleased now that there was no need to take breaks between rounds or pause to capture breath . he looked back at his husband , grinned , and lifted their hand up to his mouth , brushing a kiss over their knuckles , “ forever . ”

     a smile touched kieran’s lips as they looked over at their husband . ‘  forever , ‘ kieran happily agreed . the whole situation may have been rather bittersweet but kieran knew that they were at least happy to be here with josh versus separating from him forever . kieran eventually leaned in , brushing their lips against their husband’s own . ‘  shower ? ‘

     he laced their fingers together and leaned in ,  brushing their lips together in a gentle kiss and smiling when he pulled back ,  “  I  know  it  isn’t  the  high  life ,  but  I’m  glad  you’re  with  me …  or ,  that  I’m  with  you –  however  you  want  to  look  at  it .  ”

     riley hummed softly against matteo’s lips , raising a hand to push some of his hair back . ‘  i’m  glad  we’re  here  together . ‘ would riley want this for matteo if they had a choice ? of course not , but maybe this was better in some ways . neither of them had to go on without the other and nothing could tear them apart .

    matteo didn’t exactly notice kieran’s cringe ,  matteo didn’t really think about the impact of their death ,  or whether there would be any at all ,  and then kieran died ,  and they didn’t really have to worry much ,  but maybe they would when they were finally faced with their parents .  he placed down the box and glanced back at kieran ,  nodding their head ,  “  keeping  up  appearances ?  fair  enough .  ”

    ‘  something  like  that , ‘ kieran hummed before moving to place down their own box . ‘  no  one  knows  we’re  dead .  might  as  well  . ‘ kieran didn’t know how long it could actually last but they figured they could at least give it a shot . at least not everything had to go to waste . kieran took in a breath before looking their brother over , ‘  how  are  you  doing  with  everything ? ‘

     he could have watched them finish over and over again ,  never getting enough of the sight ,  but he couldn’t hold off on his own climax much longer .  josh pumped near erratically until finally slowing to a stop .  josh buried himself in kieran and gripped their hips tightly ,  before finally collapsing against them ,  “  god ,  I  love  you .  ”

      “  I  am ,  ”  josh admitted ,  sighing softly ,  “  but  –  at  least  it  was  here ,  and  not  somewhere  else ,  because  now  you’re  stuck  with  me ,  ”  he smiled ,  reaching out and giving their shoulder a squeeze ,  “  you  ever  want  to  talk  to  dad  about  any  of  this ?  they  may  never  find  us ,  and  well  –  you  know  dad .  ”

      '  of  course  ,  there’s  that . ‘ riley offered a soft smile but sighed when joshua brought up their father . ‘  and  say  what ? ‘ they knew there was a good possibility no one would find them even if they came here but riley still wasn’t sure on what to do about their father . ‘  do  you ?  want  to  talk  to  him  ,  i  mean . ‘

matteo had imagined marriage before , weddings even , none of them were ever planned at murder house , or any house really , but some form of destination wedding — and mostly with riley , except from a handful of times where it was some actor or singer he was crushing on at the time . he never expected that when he really thought about his life , and made the decision to end it , that marriage would come back around as an opportunity , after all , matteo was barely sure there was life of any sort after death , and yet , here they were . he kissed them again , wrapping his arms around their neck and clinging to them tightly , “ you think there’s a moretti for every shelby or ? ”

    riley had never really given the idea of getting married much thought . that was probably due to their own trauma but if it came down to it , they knew who they wanted to spend the rest of their life with and while they weren’t living , that didn’t mean they couldn’t spend the rest of their dead days with matteo . a soft smile tugged at their lips , arms moving around matteo . ‘  well ,  we’re  two  for  two  so  i’d  say  probably . ‘

      “  I  wish  that  made  me  feel  better ,  ”  josh mumbled ,  but decided to put aside the conversation ,  it would only lead somewhere emotional and while death had allowed josh to progress in that department ,  he still wasn’t too sure he wanted riley to see how broken he was over their death .  josh gave them a small smile ,  running a hand through his hair ,  “  at  least  we  have  each  other –  and  the  morettis .  ”

 '  i’m  not  angry  about  it . ‘ that much riley was hoping was obvious by now . there was no blame that they put on josh and they probably never would . riley looked back at their brother , offering a small smile . ‘  yeah ,  i  mean  there’s  that . ‘ it was bittersweet really . riley wouldn’t have asked for this to happen to any of them but there wasn’t anything they could do about it .

I like that.” Folding his arms behind his back in mock contemplation, it would have been comical to think about the other ghosts causing an uproar had Josh or Kieran let it in their heads they could bark commands or demanding good behavior. “You really have allowed these spirits to drive you insane, mate, the nonchalance with our abhorrent methods is delightful.” Archie breathed an almost manic chuckle before it turned into a hum, “You know, I don’t have emotional attachments to anything or anyone, but there is something about this house that entices.” His gaze wandered around the room before drifting to Kieran. “Come. Have a drink with me.”

     ‘  or  you  just  die . ‘ kieran offered a shrug of their shoulders , ‘  i  brutally  stabbed  my  husband  to  death  in  our  kitchen  and  my  husband  suffocated  me  during  sex .  nothing  surprises  me  any  more . ‘ kieran wasn’t sure if anything bothered them much anymore . if kieran and their husband were capable of doing that to each other , then kieran was well aware that the other spirits in this house could get quite creative and brutal . kieran took in a breath before offering a nod , ‘  i  won’t  say  no  to  that . ‘

Oh, wait, that was simply me.” Archie waved his hand carelessly to dismiss the silly notion and made the small journey to the window overlooking the gazebo built in the back yard as he listened to Kieran spout their reasoning behind the business endeavor. “I will never understand this generation’s day an age with their obsessions over technology. Fucking hell, you wouldn’t believe the years these brats would slip through the back door just to take a photograph for their little friends’ amusement. None make it out, but it’s quite the repetitive bore.” He hummed, “It is clever, I suppose. The publicity itself.” Archie cracked a grin and pondered Kieran’s question with amusement, “I’d hate to lose a potential partnership in this arrangement, Kieran.” Maybe others wouldn’t agree in the long run, but he couldn’t resist. “Make this place into a lodge where weary travelers rest their heads if you must. In turn, others like myself have a free range on the visitors.” Archie crossed the room, meeting Kieran in the middle, “It’s a win-win. We all have kill privileges, even you and Joshua.”

      ‘  well ,  i  don’t  expect  you  would .  you  died  when  people  wanted  to  make  alcohol  illegal . ‘ kieran hummed as archie spoke , offering a nod of their head , ‘  we  aren’t  going  into  this  thinking  people  will  play  nice  ghosts . ‘ kieran wasn’t that stupid nor were they that naive to think that anyone would listen to the couple on what to do about this . ‘  we  get  the  people  in  and  everyone  is  free  to  do  what  they  please .  no  complaints  . ‘ kieran paused , ‘  just ,  you  know ,  let  them  get  through  the  door  and  to  their  rooms  first .  at  least  make  it  exciting  . ‘

Archie stretched a smirk to himself at the sound of the voice, venturing over to the wall he previously spent a moment staring at before slowly turning around on his heel, “Clearly, you do not see how your money was not well spent. The echoes, the groans, and the plumbing. Oh, the plumbing here is a nightmare.“ The man forced a groan sarcastically from his lips and displayed an overdramatic flair as if the home’s pipes were the major concern instead of the dozens of ghosts taking residence here. “It will kill some.” Archie eyed the other and cocked a brow, “You honestly believe guests will pay top dollar playing bedmates with Poltergeist?” He may not have been in tune with the popular media throughout the years, but he picked up bits and pieces from previous owners.

      ‘  yeah , i  do  ,  actually . ‘ kieran looked back at archie with a tilted head , ‘ people  like  being  scared .  people  pay  money  to  go  to  horror  movies  and  haunted  houses .  there’s  halloween  horror  nights  which  is  a  whole  month  dedicated  to  haunted  houses  and  being  scared  by  sweaty  men  with  chainsaws  and  i  think  you’re  missing  the  most  important  part . ‘ kieran pushed off the frame to approach archie , ‘  the  skeptics .  the  people  who  don’t  believe  in  any  of  it  let  alone  the  stories  of  this  place .  they’ll  come  just  to  try  and  rub  it  in  our  faces  that  none  of  this  is  real  .  that  we’re  pulling  the  rug  from  underneath  them .  it’s  gold  mine . ‘ granted , it wasn’t as if they needed the money . they were dead but the idea that they wouldn’t be bored in this house was enough for kieran to keep it moving . ‘  do  you  really  want  to  wait  however  long  for  someone  to  figure  out  josh  and  i  are  dead  to  take  over  this  place ? ‘

“ always , ” josh was convinced nothing could tear them apart , their relationship survived this god awful house , it survived the curse — in a sense . sure , it had driven them both to the murder of the person they loved most in the world , but it worked out perfectly , because now they’d never have to be without each other . josh’s hips picked up their pace , near grinding against kieran’s own ; he was never particularly vocal in the past , though josh lacked any shame in letting the entire house know what they were up to . his hand slipped between them , wrapping around kieran’s length and stroking them in time with every harsh thrust .

     being without josh had never really been an option . even if josh hadn’t done what he did , kieran would have joined josh in death one way or the other even if it was by their own hand . kieran almost cried out their husband’s name , an arm slipping around josh’s shoulders , nails biting into the man’s skin . a few curses fell from kieran’s lips , eyes tightly shut before forcing them open again . ‘  fuck , ‘ kieran breathed out , ‘ you’re  gonna  make  me  cum . ‘

      riley didn’t expect to get happiness from death . they definitely didn’t know what to expect from it all but they expected something darker ; something gloomier but being here with matteo , let alone his brother , it wasn’t so bad . it almost seemed as if they were able to get the things out of death that they couldn’t in life . ‘  i  love  you  too , ‘ riley hummed .   we  can  make  it  happen .  no  one’s  come  looking  for  us  yet . ‘

they stared at them , trying to read any amusement in their voice that would suggest this was a poor attempt at a joke , but riley seemed more than sincere . matteo laughed quietly and reached out , cupping riley’s jaw , “ you know , I was hoping you’d ask me that earlier , but — better late than never … ” he bowed their heads together and planted a gentle kiss to their lips , “ yes please . ”

    they could tell that matteo seemed to be assessing them , trying to figure out if this was just some joke on riley’s part but it seemed as if matteo was quick to figure out that riley wasn’t joking . riley smiled against matteo’s lips , slipping their arms around him to instead pull the other into their lap . ‘  you  can  have  whatever  you  want  ,  baby . ‘
