the bill is one line:
Terminate the EPA on dec 31st, 2018.
you can contact the reps who authored this bill.
ask them what happens to the data the agency collects? what about the current employees? what about the EPA’s powers? What’s their plan?

it would be best if constituents from these districts called! ask some questions and let them know we are not ok with this!
Please please please call these reps and the reps in your own state. We NEED to maintain protection for these species, as it is the only way to preserve the ecosystems that we DIRECTLY DEPEND ON for carbon sequestering, clean water, and clean air!!
Legit. And in general, they keep you from being, you know. Poisoned by industry on a regular basis.
Oh….
It’s highly unlikely that Gaetz’s bill will pass, as it contains no provisions for acts overseen by the EPA, for the takedown of the organization, etc. And while quite a few Rethuglicans might well like the EPA to vanish that quickly, legally you can’t just make a department of the government disappear without deaing with employees, EPA cases, transfer of oversight of various laws to other departments, etc.
This particular bill has been introduced almost every year since the EPA’s inception. Matt Gaetz probably doesn’t expect it to pass. But he has introduced the bill, so now he can go to his constituents, puff out his chest, and say that he tried to eliminate the EPA.
What we actually have to worry about are laws that, bit by bit, dismantle environmental protections–like the following:
H.J.Res. 38: Disapproving the rule submitted by the Department of the Interior known as the Stream Protection Rule.
Sponsor: Rep. Bill Johnson [R-OH 6]
Introduced: Jan 30, 2017
Enacted — Signed by the President: Feb 16, 2017 (Yep. This is now a law.)
***
H.J.Res. 36: Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the final rule of the Bureau of Land Management relating to “Waste Prevention, Production Subject to Royalties, and Resource Conservation”.
Sponsor: Rep. Rob Bishop [R-UT 1]
Introduced: Jan 30, 2017
Passed House: Feb 3, 2017
***
S.J.Res. 21: A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Environmental Protection Agency relating to Cross-State Air Pollution Rule Update for the 2008 Ozone NAAQ
Sponsor: Sen. Patrick “Pat” Toomey [R-PA]
Introduced: Feb 3, 2017
Referred to Committee: Feb 3, 2017
***
H.J.Res. 22: Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of a rule submitted by the Environmental Protection Agency relating to “Oil and Natural Gas Sector: Emission Standards for New, Reconstructed, and Modified Sources”.
Sponsor: Rep. Scott Perry [R-PA 4]
Introduced: Jan 6, 2017
Referred to Committee: Jan 6, 2017
***
Gaetz’s bill is showboating. It is unworkable as written. These joint resolutions that say, “We disapprove of that law about stream protection, waste prevention, air pollution, or emissions standards, so we’re going to pass laws saying that such environmental protections can be ignored, because fuck the EPA”…they’re the real threat. We need to pay attention to them–and NOW.

FEBRUARY HOROSCOPES Aries, some ghosts are here to teach you instead of haunt you. Taurus, your mother is not disappointed in the person you’ve become or the people you have been. Gemini, it is difficult for an artist to love another artist; you both desperately want the other to hold still. Cancer, avoiding important conversations because they’re difficult does not make anything easier. Leo, you are still adequate even when you are not receiving constant validation. Virgo, the life you deserve is fulfilling and filled to the brim with glittering magnificence. Libra, everyone misses you even when you don’t think you’ve gone anywhere. Scorpio, healing doesn’t have to mean yanking the memory down like the string of a ceiling fan. Sagittarius, the careful balance of chaos and beauty in your life is inspiring to those around you. Capricorn, some things are just meant to be a conversation; not everything is meant to be a poem. Aquarius, the person that once made a city out of your heart is still looking for your tongue in the mouths of strangers. Pisces, good intentions are not good excuses.

THE GREATEST JOKE ADVENTURE TIME HAS EVER WRITTEN
People like to make fun of animators but jokes on them…
along with a plethora of other cool things, i always wanted to be an animator. when i was a little girl i was so fascinated with it. from the weird claymation shows on nickelodeon to nightmare before christmas. i used to make my own little shorts in high school. i know so much hard work goes into it that i can’t help but pay attention to all the details in films i watch. rather than just watching, i acknowledge and imagine all the work it took. one of my favorite animators is david firth. he does weird creepy shit with pig heads and fake blood. there’s one called “Crooked Rot” and it’s amazing work. i’ll try to post it here
i’m gonna grow so many flowers and strawberries, and be the guardian to so many honeybees. just watch me
The oldest depiction of the universe
This is one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th Century and the oldest depiction of the universe so far. Called the Nebra sky disc, named for the town where it was found in 1999, the artifact has been dated back to 1600 BC. It was buried about 3,600 years ago but could be much older. It has been associated with the European Bronze Age Unetice culture.
When it was first crafted, it would have been golden brown because the disc itself is made from bronze. Over time, the it corroded to green. Fortunately, the symbols are made of gold and thanks to them we know it was possibly an astronomical instrument. There’s Sun, a central to northern European Bronze Age religion and the crescent moon (in ancient times, the moon was used to represent time). The clump between the sun and moon are thought to be the Pleiades constellation, which was an imporant constellation for Bronze Age farmers because it appeared and disappeared in important farming times. So the Nebra disc could have told people the right time to plant and harvest.
What’s more, astronomer Wolfhard Schlosser, at the University of Hamburg, found that if you draw a line from the center of the disc to the top and bottom end of the right arc, the angle between the two ends measures exactly 82 degrees. And it’s the same value for the left golden arc. This number is very important for only a small group of people who live at the same latitude as the current German town of Nebra since it’s the angle between where the sun sets on the horizon in mid-winter and mid-summer.
The bronze disc combines an extraordinary comprehension of astronomical phenomena enabling to peak into the early knowledge of the heavens. It’s shocking it was almost lost to the black market.

Today is a good day to remember that the black panther party always was a proponent for queer rights and queer activists today can repay that kindness by supporting groups such as black lives matter and by working to eliminate racism in our own communities.
Also the Black Panther Party protected disabled protesters during a 23 day sit-in in 1977 that resulted in the winning of 504 regulations. Please don’t forget that.
