I want everyone to know that there are queers in the hollers of Appalachia, in the bayous and marshland of the Deep South, in Southwestern deserts, through the Ozark mountains and up to the Rockies. There are queers in the Great Plains, there are queers in rural America, in trailer parks of the Osage foothills. In the places you least expect us to live, we are here, carving out community and fighting for liberation with pride despite it all. Stop forgetting about us. Stop overlooking our experiences and our impact just because we don’t live in a Big Gay City. And for the love of God, stop looking at us with pity.
Also, there are ALLIES out here.
I live in a no-stoplight town in the south. There are three tractor stores and two animal supply stores within 25 minutes of my house, and we finally got a grocery store, apparently some time this year. We have no McDonald's or any other kind of chain restaurant.
I saw a redneck at the country store face down a guy whining about the trans menace and tell him to act like he had fuckin' southern manners, or move up north.
And that redneck was a better ally than most people online
queer existence is part of the human condition. queer people exist everywhere, in every community. queer people are part of LGBTQ history. and it's way too easy to overlook the experiences of queer folks who live in regions where, for one reason another, other people think they can't exist or don't belong. i fully think that everyone should read about the lived experiences of people outside of their origins. so. i have (America-focused) memoir and nonfiction recommendations!!!

I’m so fucking sick of diabetes jokes. They’re everywhere, like people somehow think it’s ok to make fun of a disease like that.
“that’s got so much sugar, it’ll give you diabetes!”
first of all THATS NOT HOW ANY TYPE OF DIABETES WORKS.
Second of all, even if it was, and people ‘gave diabetes to themselves’, it’s just not funny! Who gave you the right to make fun of a literal disabled person just because you think they deserve it because they ‘brought this onto themselves’? that’s fucked up! All types of diabetes have a genetic component, and specifically for type 2 diabetes, you don’t know that person’s circumstances. Recent studies are showing links between type 2 diabetes and poverty, as sugary overprocessed food like fast food is cheaper and sometimes more accessible. And once again, there’s still a genetic component.
‘that’ll give you diabetes’ jokes are just not funny. They’re insensitive, and as a type 1 they’re just a constant reminder that I have a disease that is heavily misunderstood and weighs on me every day. I’ve heard like 10 in the past week and just now heard another one and it was the last fucking straw. DON’T MAKE THEM.
This is 100000% ok for non diabetics to reblog I would appreciate that very much
Fun Fact: Most moths remember being caterpillars!
About a month ago, I was talking to a kid and their parent about butterflies, because I will talk to anyone and everyone about bugs if given the opportunity. As a throw away comment, I told the child that they should always be kind to caterpillars, because they will remember it as butterflies!
The main reason I said this was to remind the child to be respectful to living things in general, but the parent expressed shock at this tidbit and asked me how on earth scientists could possibly have figured that out. So I told her, and now I’m going to tell all of you!
The short answer is that, basically, we gave a bunch of caterpillars an education, and then, after they transformed into moths, we tested their memory!
(The caterpillar and moth pictures used in this post are not the same species as was used in the study, which were Manduca sexta, and in fact these pictures are of two different species, but shhhh)
Of course, caterpillar school isn’t the same as human school. Instead, the caterpillars were taught to associate a little shock (similar to a static shock from a doorknob) with a very specific scent.
After a few repetitions, the caterpillars were individually given the choice to travel down one of two paths: one with the scary scent and one with “clean air”.
Before metamorphosis, 80% of the caterpillars chose the “clean air” path.
After the caterpillars metamorphosised into moths, they were tested again, and it was found that 77% of moths went down the path with “clean air”.
This means that approximately 54% of the moths remembered their training as a caterpillar!
But wait, didn’t 77% of the moths choose “correctly”? Shouldn’t that mean that 77% of the moths remember being a caterpillar?
Nope! Why not? Well, mostly due to math (my frenemy).
See, when the scientists tested untrained moths (and also ones who were only exposed to the shock, or only exposed to the scent as a caterpillar) they found that they went down the clean air path about 50% of the time, which is about what we would expect if the moths were choosing randomly.
This means that, among the moths who completely forgot their training, we would expect approximately 50% of them to select the “clean air” path”. In other words, about half of the forgetful moths in this test were “correct” by accident, sort of like guessing the answer for a True or False question.
54% may or may not be better than the percent of humans who remember literally anything they learned while in school (see: me googling how to do basic algebra to figure out that 54% number). I don’t know what percent of my schooling I remember, but it definitely isn’t 100%
Still, considering how much of the caterpillar becomes mush during metamorphosises, even 54% of the moths remembering is really, really impressive!
Now, these numbers are inexact, simply because we’re working with probability and also because we have to make a few assumptions.
For example, we are assuming that EVERY moth that remembered their training would have avoided the scary scent and taken the “clean air” path. However, this is not actually guaranteed! Maybe some moths remembered the scary scent and still decided to take the scary air path.
Why would they do this? Well, we can’t be sure, but I’m going to imagine it’s because of something like this:
So there you have it! This is how we know that most moths (and presumably butterflies) remember being caterpillars!
This has been Fun Fact Friday, warning you to treat caterpillars kindly, just in case one decides to come after you for VENGENCE as a butterfly.
Empirical research shows bathroom predator concerns are baseless.
“Our side concocted the ‘bathroom safety’ male predator argument as a way to avoid an uncomfortable battle over LGBT ideology, and still fire up people’s emotions.”
COLOUR ME FUCKING SURPRISED
I want people, in particular cis people, to read this and understand what it means.
It means that these groups, these organizations, are so Hellbent on getting trans people outlawed, hurt, and killed, that they will openly lie and admit to lying to stir up emotions. They have no qualms with actively lying and distorting reality.
They have no qualms about misleading people. Actively lying to people.
They don’t care how immoral their actions may be, how much their rhetoric flies in the face of reality, as long as it reaches their end goal of the destruction of “transgender ideology.”
MassResistance and all their ilk want us dead, and should never be trusted, not even for the most trivial of matters. They should be rejected, reviled, despised, because nothing they do is in service of anything but hatred and evil.
And in case anyone actually doubts this, and wants to cry “fake news,” here’s MR’s actual article. Should it get deleted, here’s an archived version. Some choice bits under the cut, if you want to see how vile these people really are.

idk guys maybe we should try calling the amazon rain forest “sovereign indigenous lands” more often because i’m still seeing people talk about it like some sort of vast terra nullis where there are only animals–you know, like a colonialist
There are lots of indigenous people and tribes here, and their culture is shared a lot in my hometown — I’m from Manaus which is a city literally in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. So, yeah, people need to stop talking like that.
