I am more of a hand-painted and hand-on person who enjoys painting and making things with different materials and texture. I enjoy being inspired through processing. I am infatuated with colors and the structure of different creatures. To me, art is more like science than just aesthetics. I’ve been trying painting different themes of objects only to improve my skills now I want to practice it, to do things more of myself experimental explore. I think everyone is unique and art is so different from every single mind. I am always looking for muses around me. So my paintings are mostly about my friends and families. Recently, I opened my family’s old photo album and got inspired by its beautiful colors and fashion-style. I think it will be a good idea if my new animation is this old story of my family with my stylish paintings.I am also addicted to digital technology, become more and more interested in coding and interactive art. I think it will be cool if I make animation combining with AR, VR or even MR. Now I have been exploring how to bridge the virtual world with the real one, trying to make things with both hand-on devices and computer techniques.

Ready to the “Virtual World”?

This article on foundry.com( I happen to take the class of Nuke this semester which is the product of foundry) tells the differences of VR, AR and MR, what’s more, it briefly introduced 360 video which in my opinion will be the future of animation and films. We may have already seen a lot how smart this technology（VR/AR/MR） is in movies in recent years, we might not be so surprised how fast the real age of “ Virtual World” comes true. Although it might not be as smart as how it is in those Sci-Fi movies, the technology still needs to be improved, you can’t deny since the age of internet arrived, the world became digital, the technology of creating the Virtual World has been blossoming. The dream of us human wish to use magic to change the physical world now has been realized in the virtual world. The technology has influenced people’s life in all aspects. Yes I admit, life it is now more convenient, and with the help of digitalization and informatization, the global is more like one village now.

Wait, will there be any problems? You see,with the smart phone blossoming, the problem of the disconnection between people in real world seems serious.( the article “Fear of Screens”) What people are trying to do is to wrap themselves in a virtual, private world which deviates the original intention of why we created this technology. I think why we’re so enthusiastic about it, is we want to experience something that we can never or hardly experience in the real world. And the real world, it is not replaceable. I can’t  imagine the day when this technology has already been so perfect(like the game episode the black mirror, season 3), we can’t tell the differences between the virtual and real world, we can feel, smell, touch, everything... just like living in the real world, will it be a nightmare? It is not I don’t trust the technology, i just don’t trust the weakness of human nature.  However, all these worries and hidden problems can’t stop this pacing technology, we shouldn’t fear the new technology, if it is under well control and people are well advocated, I think the benefits will be far more than the problems. I can’t wait to cuddle the new world now. :)

Let’s Talk about  Will Pappenheimer

We were so lucky to have Will Pappenheimer to be our Augmented Reality class visiting artist to talk about how he applied his art works to Augmented Reality. I think what he has been exploring not only the content of AR artworks, but also the way how he thinks the future of AR can be.He is the Avant garde, always experimenting different formats in AR application with different fields crossed over. What he inspired me a lot was how he used AR augmented the whole world and tried to immerse users into his AR world, being interactive, not only just an “AR app”. The smartest part for example,was the Drawing Constellation 2016(picture1), he used a public app to set up a virtual Drawing Constellation, and with the help of GPS technology combined with the AR database, the users can upload their drawings directly to the database of this constellation and see how their drawings appearing, adding to, being animated with the others. The other example was thinking the same, users could interact with the virtual world directly(picture2), it was so interesting to see how their selfies being appearing on the surface of the buildings(mirror reflection wall), like, you augmented youself in the virtual world with the other people in the real world. 

Another unique way of thinking Will Pappenheimer had was how he augmented the virtual artistic world onto the realistic world, the space, the dimension (picture3), he always saw things from a large scale perspective, standing on the macroscopic angle, trying to use his art to “change” the physical world. It worked and I  think with the more and more developed technology, one day people will eventually feel the magic power of how smart it is, not just through the screens of smart phone or tablet, they can be totally immersed in it , touch it, even feel it, maybe that’s what the age of mixed reality will be. :)

Crazy Zoo/Augmented Reality/GamIfication ( Documentary✔▼ ) 

Developer: Heein Park , Ghost Qiao Coder: Heein Park Animator: Ghost This is a cooperation game, it should be played by 4 people, one capture picture and another capture the picture of his. By capturing the 4th piture and make it to the final level, you will caputre all the animals and win the game.

I THINK

the greatest part of the game is cooperating with each other while playing this AR game.

IMPROVEMENT

it will be more fun

1.if we can scan the real things (like people) in the reality, then  they will be translated to the “digital ones”  and put into the cage.

2.players can actually chasing their “preys” instead of just capturing the pictures of their funny postures.

3.if the difficulty of four levels are different and more complicated.

REFLECTION

It is interesting to see my animation made into the AR GAME and the interactive and logical part  in developing the game is much more fun. I hope there’ll be more chances to develop games combining my own profession.

Augmented Reality Project1 ( Documentary✔▼ )

  This is my first project for my Augmented Reality class. I tried to make some physical markers. Just imagine, if the sculptures are made into kinetic devices and  will become “alive” on the screen after scanned,each of them has a story,isn’t it more interesting?

  This project “Lonely Me” is about loneliness, “Each loner lives in his own wolrd.” The story was based on my own experiences. I think we all have difficult times and we are fighting against them through all our lives. I want people who see “Lonely me” with the same feelings,gain some courage,because you are not alone.

Critical Play(reading assignment)

Actually I had finished reading two weeks ago but I just thought if I could finish the gamification, I would have better understanding of games. I am not a crazy fan of games, I seldom play games. I played games more often when I was a kid, with my cousin, play station, game boy...like that.And my favourite games are always those classic ones, even the one, black and white “Snake”, on old model of my mum’s Nokia. As I grew up, I found it was easily getting addicted and really wasting time once I started play a game, so I was cautious about playing games. However, after I grouped with Park(my classmate), he had ideas which were really cool and that inspired me a lot. I think I like designing games more than playing them.(like I love participating in sports more than just watching them). Gamification is awesome because you can combine your logic with your profession, create your own world and invite others to join.It’s some kind like wisdom competition between you and your users. As the creator I will be really happy to see people who are addicted to the games I designed. With the development of new technology, I think there will be more and more ways to create different kinds of games. 

One game I am interested recently is a “silly” game called Yasuhati (a Japanese game) controlled by sound（https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/yasuhati/id1207737169?mt=8）, when you play that game, the only thing you need to do is either talking or screaming(just making different volums of sounds) That is so clever and hilarious!!! Every one who plays the game can’t stop laughing!So much fun!

Since I become interested in game design, I watched the tutorials of Javascript games in HTML5 and maybe later I will try to design my own silly games. yay!

Like the author says “ You can be distant in all the ways you were close in the video conversation, not ‘in the same place’ at all. ” It doesn’t matter that whether you are addicted to modern technologies or not, it is that if you take it seriously when communicating with others. I think from some part,new technology helps a lot to improve the relationship between friends and families, people to people, you and me. Because you can get the latest stories happened to them and talk to them immediately.It is true that when face-to-face talking is more intimate,but, think about the old days before, when we had no instant mediums at all, we hard to know some far-away relative or friend’s recent life, we communicated like,even once a year. Wasn’t it worse than today? You can’t blame new technology because they make people addicted to their phones and become not so sociable. It’s just people themselves. Do not resist new technology, it’s better to face and fix your own problems,get more self-control rather than escape and blame the new technology.

Comparing headlines from 1937 with today's news offers a prescient warning for the future.

First I wanna say that there’re some problems. I think just because that they used the transiting titles as markers and turn on the looping option in all assets, everytime when I stopped the webpage video, the AR video is still playing and looks not that good. And the current news they chose are not very match. Anyway, the idea is really cool. I am not a political person(I am sorry for that), that means I cared less about politics. I know it is not normal particularly in the united states. Most people here talk about politics and they all know only if they care politics that they can protect their own rights. That makes sense. Seems like I am off the topic again...hahah. This project is interesting but I still have faith in the future, situation is not that bad, though it’s a good thing to warn people do not redo things in the past. Tomorrow should be better and better right?

But one thing is good that more people are aware and willing to take stepes to claim their rights, help those who need help...everything, people are more connected than before. We’re not those fatuous people who are easily controlled any more.

We all have hard times. This was made during my tough times a few years ago. I don’t think it is a shame to admit that I do have had eating disorder for quite a long time. Everytime I felt upset and distressed I couldn’t stop eating till I voimitted all the food. It was like a nightmare and I was so addicted to it. It was one of my way to release my pressure. Now I am recovered. I made this to make people be aware that, the biggest enemy is yourself, The hardest is to fight against your own problems.That’s how you grow up, how you become a better person.

so here’s my augmented reality design, I will put on those markers like “  Bulimia ”,” Melancholia”,”Bibulosity”...when scan, there will be GIFS looping with true stories telling as aside, to make people know this is harmful they should be awared.

Last semester we’ve already watched the video of Claudia Hart, Alice Walking show in Practicum class. That was interesting, she used the “old things” created her “new things”. Also the augmented reality she used was new and workable. I saw so mant people took out their phones scanning the cotumes and got the different texts from the novel “Alice in wonderland”, very interesting.

With the fast developing technology, even art can use it to do a lot of things we never thought before. Although today argmented reality only can be realised on smart devices, I have faith that someday it can be realised on everything, we can use paper or even our parts of bodies! Like, you strech your hand, scan the mark( like a smart phone does) and you will see something magic will be playing on your hand.I might be a little bit off the main idea of this passage... anyway, this is my imagination...hahaha ~Technology can be used alternatively by artists and benefit our society!
