Since the British Mandate, the Palestinian liberation movement has been one which, across its different ideological variations (Arab Nationalist, Communist, Islamist, etc), has championed the causes of land rights, cross-sectarian freedom, and anti-imperial autonomy. It's only natural then that the US invests so much into preserving the Israeli regime. Its survival is key to ensuring that America's wider network of wealth extraction and control in West Asia continues to function. The principles embedded in the Palestinian struggle threaten the system in its entirety, and its victory will be the death knell for the militarist kleptocrats of Egypt and the Gulf aristocracies as much as it will be for Zionism.
