Can I ask how you get your skin to look glossy and clean? Is it a shader?

hi hi i feel like the “glossy and clean” look is actually a result of me being light crazy in blender (seriously, sometimes there’s like 12 lights placed down) and my editing style 🥹 i do use a skin shader but i mainly put strategic point lights to get that glowy blooming effect on the skin. I like to make my renders look hazy but then I sharpen them after which helps make the skin look clean but not too airbrushed

I’m so sorry to bother you, but would you eli5 what shapekeys are? Sculpting? 😭 (Your edits have always been bomb, even before Blender!) ❤️❤️

sorry for the delay!!! i don’t check here super often ;_; shapekeys are a thing in blender that allows you to modify your mesh while sculpting on like a value slider (the default is 0-1.0), and sculpting is well… using 3d brushes to move a mesh around (in my post i used it to move the hair to lay more naturally over her body in the pose!)

i do agree that people need to disclose using ai and i understand not wanting to support gen ai especially in creative spaces. however, it’s really invalidating to people who take the time to paint over and edit by hand and build that skill up only to have others assume it’s all assisted by ai 😭

i included my 30 second speed edit from procreate and a side by side of the raw render from blender with the after of the edit.

as for the raw, her hair mesh is sculpted using a shapekey so it looks halfway decent in the pose. i made the pose myself based off a reference image from pinterest and retextured the hat (originally is from blenderkit).

i’m not an ai user nor will i become one😭 it cheapens the act of creating for me (stealing other people’s work to learn from and negative environmental impact aside). some of my favorite things is seeing how far ive come from my old renders/edits to now

this is the only time i’m posting my workflow regarding this issue (bc I shouldn’t have to). thank you for understanding 🖤
