The jailors came to her cell to make sure that she was âalrightâ and good to go. Days had passed since she had been forcefully taken away by some lowly goons to serve as entertainment for the Muneraâs spectators. âBestiariiâ was what she was. She translated to âbeastâ or âcattleâ. It angered her to say the least. What did not help was how they treated her ever since the incident. Rumor had it that she was a cannibal. It could not be entirely confirmed, but she did kill a ghoul before she was shoved into this cell closer to the arena. Â She enjoyed scaring the crap out of her captors during the whole time. She would talk crazy for the most part, but, what gave them the spooks were her sudden change of moods. They made sure to drug her this time until the day before the 4th day.
[ TRIGGER WARNING: mild gore ]
( part 1 )
When she regained consciousness, she gasped for the little air that she could intake. Her vision was still slightly blurry and her abdomen area still was painful. It took her some time to recollect what had happen up to the point she slipped out of consciousness. The mere thought of her being held captive for an idiotic tournament made her blood boiled. She sat down on the mattress she was on and inspected her surroundings. From the scent, she could tell that only one ghoul was posted outside the door of what she assumed to be her cell.
Iâm hungryâŠ
The young woman decided to examine herself. She was still dressed in her hoodie and leggings â her typical attire. The leggings were shredded on various places, but nothing too bad. Her hoodie had a huge hole revealing her stomach â she recalled the ghoul who crept on her and stabbed. It was not the only thing that was revealed. The girl touched her face and realized that they had taken off her mask. She could not let the world know of her identity let alone show them her face. She sighed.
Iâm hungryâŠthatâs the most pressing issueâŠ
The half-ghoul managed to stand up and to somewhat crawl to the door. She banged on it with her feet to let the guard know that she was wild awake. If he or she or they had any shred of sympathy, he or she or they would offer something to eat. It was in their best interest to have her full of energy if they wanted to be entertained during Munera. With the wrath she bore, surely they would be mildly entertained if she could even tear the arm of her opponent and feast on it.
Iâm very hungryâŠdammitâŠ
The guard seemed to ignore her; therefore, she decided to attack plan B. Thus she annoyed, she blabbered, she joked, she talked some more, she bugged and she yelled until the other conceded to whatever demands she had. With her many charms â or her many threats â she managed to have him smuggle a piece of flesh. But, the ration was simply not enough. The ghoul did not concede to give her more, so she willowed a corner and waited.
Iâm stillâŠhungryâŠ
Hours seemed to past slowly in this cell with nothing else to do. She decided that she needed some chatting companion and decided to tell the guard all kind of nonsensical stories about Uncle Steve and is good dog Bucky. She was bored, but the other was sick of her. The guard asked her what she needed and she told him that she would love to have a stapler. It confused him, and she told him monotonously that she liked to use staple guns on herself to kill time â bullshit that the guard believed.
I want foodâŠIâm hungryâŠ
She did not expect the guard to slide under her door a construction stapler. It helped her deduce approximately where she had been taken after her abduction. Whoever was paid for this brought her on a construction site. It meant that, at some point, they would move to another location close to where Munera would be held. She actually did not know that she was kept on a construction site; she thought that she had made that up. Anyway, she grabbed the stapler and sat down in the corner just next to the door.
[ TRIGGER WARNING: gore, mutilation & cannibalism ]
You come home to a black, folded invitation on your dining table.
Was that there before? You canât remember.
The trip home was creepy enough; being closely followed by a white van with no plate number is creepy enough.
There is nothing printed on the cover of the invitation, and so you decide to open it.
The following message greets you in delicate, silver script:
Congratulations! You have been invited to this yearâs Munera as a BESTIARUS! The Munera is an annual peace-keeping event among select members of society. Weâre sure this must be an honour. Unfortunately, we cannot allow you to travel to the venue yourself. We have arranged someone to pick you up, so you no longer have to worry about transportation! We will also have to hold you in a separate accommodation from your peers, in order to follow tradition. To keep the peace, blood must be shed.
Your opponent for this year will be: Mr. Park Haejin.
Good luck, and be sure to enjoy yourself this year!
Outside, a heavy hand knocks against your door, once, and twice, shaking it by the frame. The third knock will surely send it down. Outside, you can hear the murmur of not one, not two, but multiple voices that can surely overpower you. Will you come quietly, put up a struggle, or attempt to escape?Â
She had always assumed that her identity was, well, a secret to everyone, but it seemed that a lot more people had tabs on her. One thing was sure, no one knew that she a half-ghoul and a seasoned one at that. She always believed that Munera was one of the most stupid theatrical antics that the ghoul community had to offer. For a slight moment, she wished that the CCG would shut this party down to put them back to put everyone in their place.
Two, three, eightâŠmaybe ten?
Her sensitive nose could smell the wretched stench of those who would come to pick her up. There was no way that she was going to simply let them do as they please. She knew that she would have no time to contact anyone to help her out in this blunder. So, instead, she decided to go into her room, change her clothes and to grab a special mask that she had kept hidden for so long. The âSteinâs Skullâ, that was how she named it. Wearing a wig or the other trinkets she would wear when she parades as a ghoul would only hinder her.
I will not be taken away without a fight, you mongrels.
That was when she heard the knocking on her apartmentâs door. They were coming for her. âSylphâ did not think twice as she jumped out of the window. That was when she heard one shouting and warning the others that she was attempting to flee. And, the pursue began. Knowing her way around her ward, she aimed for the sewers. It was her domain. Thus she believed that she could escape them.
In the depth of smelly abyss, âSylphâ did manage to elude them. At least, for a while. The stench helped hiding her smell from her assailants. Speaking of her smell, since she had the organs of two other ghouls, she had more than one smell, so that also helped her for the time being.
When she thought that she was safe, she was ambushed by solely three members of the pack. She should have not been cocky. The opponents that she was up against had years of experience under their belt. Even if a half-ghoul was supposedly âstrongerâ, she lacked the fighting experience (especially since she preferred to stray away from the world and its problem in the comfort of her zone).
IâŠIâm not going down without aâŠfight.
She unleashed her kagune in her preferred style of combat. As she was in the air, she spread her rinkaku as eight âtentaclesâ giving her the appeal of a spider. She went straight for the koukaku user and overpowerd her quickly with her swift onslaught. Her mistake reallyâŠ
âYouâre quite the fighter. The spectators will love it,â said a voice next to her ear before plunging his kagune into her stomach.
One of them crept behind her and sucker punched her. For many, it would have a cowardly and dishonourable act, but, in a fight, only the smart ones survive. The world around her fade to black.
âŠI tried.

the words âfancyâ, âclassyâ and all their other counterparts meant little to her. it was not that she detest them; she was merely uninterested in the world of glamour. in her opinion, the people who lived in that world were often a bunch of phony low lives in fancy suits. then again, everyone had his or her taste and if he or she had expensive taste, so be it.Â
â...besides, a few of those rich and famous are my clients...â she murmured as she received her latest delivery.
that delivery in question was from a person in particular. a dragon with a chilling reputation coupled with his exquisite taste for fine âmeatâ. of course, according to the rumours, he was part that gourmet group, which also had some bad and frightening reputation. like always, âsylphâ wanted to keep a certain distance. she was still a bit curious about the man and the gourmet (having a bit of intel was always good enough).
âsylphâ, in her overall an her ghoul attire,  stared at the shipment. it was still alive, which was going to be a pain. she wondered what did this human did to anger the dragon. cross him? play him? bail out on him? the ideas ran free in her mind.
âyou know,â she told the client, the dragon himself, while prepping her equipment. âwhen i deal with alive beings, i demand a bit more. iâm no scrapper. i donât work for free.â the poor human looked terrified. the last image he was about to see was a blue-haired girl with her mask and a chainsaw. âwhat did he do?â she wondered maybe prying a little too much. âwill you want a fancy cologne out him as well?â she had monotonously even if it was meant as a joke.

sometimes, it was good to take a break. a break from life. parks were one of those places where people could take break. watching the scenery, such as the trees, the flowers, the clouds, the playing children or the dogs, all that was therapeutic to rei. she would just sit there on the bench and look at the world unfold before her.
on occasion, there would be a random passerby who would sit down next to her. there were times when she would engage in a conversation to pass time. most of the times, both parties would mind their own business and do their own thing. there was not always much to say.
today seemed like just a typical afternoon at the park. and, like those typical afternoons, she would sit down and watch the rest of the world from her only uncovered eye. there kids playing ball (she would not go as far as calling it football aka soccer). there were other kids in the playground area. some older kids, possibly teenagers, were hanging out with their friends. others were play games like frisbee. there were couples there and there. families. old people playing chess or shogi. all typical.
then, there was that young man (she assumed him to be young based on his looks) who sat by her side. she wondered what kind of person he would be. will he talk? will he stay in his bubble? thatâs when he spoke and caught her attention altogether.
hello ~ sorry, i wasnât around much. busy lie and all. iâm going to start replies and starters now.
I was angry with my friend; I told my wrath, my wrath did end. I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did grow. And I waterd it in fears, Night & morning with my tears: And I sunned it with smiles, And with soft deceitful wiles. And it grew both day and night. Till it bore an apple bright. And my foe beheld it shine, And he knew that it was mine. And into my garden stole, When the night had veild the pole; In the morning glad I see; My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

half-ghouls were rare. in the ghoul community like in the doves community and the expert community, they are so legendary rare that they are considered as urban legends. that was why rei was extremely careful. that was why she had to train so hard to be strong enough so that she would not rely solely on her kagune or so that she had self-control with that ghoulish hunger. she even went as far as to always an eye patch.
this calm and controlled life was now potentially endangered, because she fell on a fellow halfling. it was the scent followed by the screams that tipped her off as she walked down the back alleys of the 25th ward. any human and especially a half-ghoul with little to no training in combat should not roam that forsaken ward in fear of becoming a ghoulâs feast.Â
before her was a ghoul and from what she could make up of the scene there was the possible other half-ghoul on the ground screaming for help. it was none of her business. if anything, she could have just ignored the scene entirely and let the predator devour his prey â plus this prey would make him a whole lot stronger too. but, then, she remembered how life was three years ago. she could understand and feel the fear that the terrified victim had.
taking off her hoodie, she quietly sighed. âwhat good will come from this?â
rei executed the ghoul quickly and cleanly as she crept behind the ghoul and released her rinkaku â one tentacle was necessary â to behead the other ghoul.
while making sure that her mask was well adjusted to her face, she turned herself to the other one. âare you okay?â

âarenât you a weird one,â mused rei when she saw someone entering the boutique from the security camera.
it was relatively calm that afternoon. until three or four, there were never many customers unless it was a weekend. people had lives â jobs or school. she never was one to complain since she still made some profit just later. most of the times, she would take the opportunity to go upstairs in her meth lab to cook the products that she would sell.
she washed up and went down to meet the new face. it was just another girl wondering in the beauty boutique. rei tried to figure her out as she took steps closer to the other. was she more âfloral?â âspice?â âsweet?â or âwould she want something exotic with the scent of coconut?â her trail of thought was interrupted at the impact of the smell emanating from the girl. it was the smell of blood. blood that was not the girlâs as it was distinctive from the girlâs smell. âan odd one indeed.â
âmay i help you with anything?â rei inquired when she had finally reached the customer. the smell was abhorrently and abundantly intoxicating. if this chance meeting would have happened three years ago, rei knew that, with her little control, would have tried to devour the latter alive. now, she had more self-control, but still...she still was a half-ghoul.Â
hiding her clenched fist behind her back, she continued casually professional. âare you looking for anything particular?â

it is not safe out there. not anymore that is. it has been so for the last three years now. she always kept it for herself except for two separate occasions: the one time when she went after the doves who murdered her friends and who was responsible for her transformation and the other time when she had a run in with a dove who broke her previous mask â she should thank that dove, because they might lost anything about her since she change considerably now. however, dreaming to live a sweet life till the end was hopeless wishing. nonetheless, rei took it one day at a time while staying in the shadows.
earlier that day, she received a call from a client. it seemed that there was a few bodies to make disappear from that one human syndicate down the 3rd ward. it always made her laugh how ghouls were treated so unfairly when there were humans committing horrific crimes that were equally âterribleâ and even more unjustifiable. anyway, why would she care? it was not like her little person could make a difference. therefore, after work at the boutique, she went home to prep herself â to shift from her human persona to her ghoulâs.
one hoodie; one wig; one legging; one mask; a pair of combat boots later...
she left the comfort of her home jumping from one roof to the next when she could â if it was safe to freely parkour her way to the 23rd ward as she preferred it without limitation to act like a human â or roaming around as limited as possible â like actually climbing the fences for example â and arrived to some sketchy neighborhood that was really close to the 25th ward â aka the ghoulsâ nest. the client was already there when she arrived. he was tapping the ground impatiently, because he was probably scared as hell. at any minute, a ghoul could have jumped him and made him his dinner. she had three bodies to dispose of. the meat was going to be sold by some âbrokerâ she dealt with. the rest was either being thrown away or being kept for her business.
it was around four in the morning when she was done with the job. now, she had to head back home. that was the tricky part. first of all, she took the underground road, the sewers, on her way back. with the wretched smell of human blood on her coupled with her own human smell, she had a very tainted smell of ghoul left â perks of being a halfling. usually she would maybe have a running with some ghouls, but, that early morning, what she ran into was beyond her. dove. the sewers were no place for this murderer in suit. around the said dove, there was a corpse meaning that this dove was not here to play.Â
the halfling stayed in the shadows. from a distance she kept an eye on the doveâs movement while she made sure that her wig, her eyepatch and her mask were properly and securely in place. there was something odd about this dove, but she was too far to catch its scent â more like her strong smell of human blood made it hard to smell anything else. that was when the dove moved and it faced at her direction. either this dove was freakingly psychic, had godly intuition or...

MUSE !
[ i rp this bean, âreiâ or âsojinâ or âsylphâ (fc: jo sojin / 9muses) who is a half-ghoul (via experimentation) who lives more as a human than a ghoul (99.9% are unaware). as rei the human (persona) owns a nice little boutique where she sells wigs (made of actual human hair) and body products (think lush meets ancient ways of making soap, makeup and lotions meets human âwasteâ like grease. yup, gruesome. at least, itâs animal crulety free and itâs promoting recycling) during the day. at night, "sylphâ gears up ghoul style and goes to the 23rd ward where she servers as butcher (pretty much the clients bring the bodies to her and she takes care of the rest. that is how she gets the hair, the grease and other things for the products she sells during the day. win-win situation.) as a being in general, sheâs the reserve type, the critic type and the just type. bonus: she is in the sidelines watching others fight their fight, because ainât nobody got time for that. ]
