Updates on the phone case since I started that up again kinda for inktober. Only 3 new ones so far, but hopefully that will grow! I have a list of ideas so if I don’t suck more will be coming soon

The phone case I ordered early Feb FIIIINALLY decided to show up. So now I'm getting my doodle on! Doing one doodle a day, just adding anything that I fancy (obvi it's all gonna be nerdy things hehehe) I'm posting them mostly on my Instagram, https://www.instagram.com/giddyarts/ but I will post a few here every once in a while! ... SHE HAS A NAME!! it was just released this am that her name is Makoto Niijima, so *confetti* Anyway, here is tonight's progress! The epaulettes were causing some problems initially, but once I got the right kind of glue it went much smoother. The one on the left was the first one so it looks less tidy.... I have a bad habit of winging it instead of patiently testing my methods... Speaking of winging it, I made that turtleneck from a pair of leggings completely from scratch L O L. Tbh I think I might try to refine the process, it looks pretty good imo for guessing at... every cut and measurement XD next up is the bodice, and figuring how to attach it to everything else! And also adding spikes to things probably

Alright, progress from my first 2 nights working on my last min Queen cosplay! I'm pretty happy with the boots and the mask so far :D they are the bottoms of leggings that I cut a heel hole into, then glued to the shoes after painting the toe. The black trim is literally just sharpie lol. The blue and orange forms are the pauldrons and poleyns, they'll get a layer of the same fabric as the boot covers glued onto them. The pauldrons actually seem to continue down to connect to the gloves.... So we'll see if I can figure that out... I was gonna just do a single layer of silver paint for the mask, but then I remembered that dry-brushing is you best friend. The mask is just a piece of mat board that I scored down the middle and cut up. I'll probably post the patterns for the pauldrons and the mask later if anyone is interested!

Some reference shots of Queen I grabbed from the trailer. I’m finding it hard to get a good look at her boots, but I know they are steel-toe because she is a badass.

So, clearly a very ‘knight’ inspired design, even down to the visor mask. The scarf seems to be fairly long, it goes down to her knees in most shots I believe. I think she is wearing white gloves, that are sort of fastened to those extra silver sleeves that go past her elbow, and attach to the spiky pauldrons. The bodice is laced at the front, save for the bottom few inches fastened with 3 buttons, and there’s more buttons on the front seems. It looks like most of the grey/silver part of her outfit is connected as a sort of top layer, with the black as a bottom layer... but I don’t think I”ll be able to pull that off by saturday lol I guess we’ll see what I can do in 1 week @____@

I’m so in love with her tho wow like does her persona turn into a MOTORCYCLE??? I wonder when we will find out what her name actually is lolol

Did I just buy 5 pairs of leggings and some shoes from Ardene's in hopes of throwing together a Queen cosplay from the latest Persona 5 trailer by Ottawa Comic Con next weekend? Yes. Yes I did. Let's see if I can pull it off hahahaha.... I kind of forgot to do anything for this year, I definitely don't have time to do Darklaw, so I think I can do this? I'M SO EXCITED FOR PERSONA 5 THO WOW

My Arda SILKY wig arrived!! I love it, of course :D I've never done blonde before, fun fun! this is gonna be for an eventual She-ra cosplay, so I'll need to loosen the curls. I tweeted at @ardawigs and they responded very quickly, I can do this using a hot hair dryer, so I'll give that a shot at some point. But for now, gonna just wear it while playing video games hahaha

@gloomyskye i was thinking of getting the Eowyn in black but they're out of stock :( I've actually got the Ororo in honey sitting in my cart cause a friend and I talked briefly about doing He-Man + She-ra for Halloween next year, and its honestly the only other costume I have in mind at the moment! I've got a few more days tho, so I'm gonna mull it over a bit more. The Venus is tempting too but since I don't have a costume in mind it's hard to pick a style and colour... Aaaaarg I wish I had something other than Darklaw planned!!

Just note that apparently the Silky wigs don’t style as easily, it seems. So they’d be best for a loose style, here’s their FAQ on the difference between their Silky and Classic fibers. The look really nice tho, I really want one!

Hi there! About your Redglare cosplay pattern, I was wondering how I get the pattern. I've never gotten a pattern from online like this before, so I'm a bit unsure. Am I meant to download the pattern with the link you pervided onto a flashdrive and get it printed out big? Assuming the printer is big enough, will it automaticlly print to the correct size? Or do I simply use that as a reference and draw out the pattern on my own? Sorry if that's a stupid question!

Not a stupid question at all! This pattern is by no means professionally made, and is more of a guideline, really, since I made it up for myself then just outlined the pieces to make the pattern.

Usually if I’m printing a pattern from online, I just print it out at home, then transfer the pattern onto scrap fabric. As a loose guideline, you can use you under bust measurement along the bottom edge of the pieces to size the pattern closer to what might fit you. IE: if my under bust is 34", I would want to make sure the total measurement of the bottom pieces is a few inches more than half of that (17" because you cut 2 of each). Also keep in mind that the front piece overlaps itself, and the pattern does include some kind of seam allowance. You may need to make a few test versions first to get it fitting perfectly.

But yeah, printing at home should be fine for this, provided you are able to resize the pattern and print it in pieces. This will probably involve a lot of winging it, with lots of trial and error. yo here’s a useful tip from your fellow art ho cynellis… use google sketchup to create a model of the room/building/town you’re trying to draw… then take a screenshot & use it as a reference! It’s simple & fun!

Sketchup is incredibly helpful. I can’t recommend it enough.

There’s a 3D model warehouse where you can download all kinds of stuff so you don’t have to build everything from scratch.

I will most likely not have the finger parts wrap all the way around, that seems like I wound’t be able to do anything while wearing them :P Sorry, can’t answer the phone right now, cosplaying  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *struggles with doorknobs*

I’m gonna probably make this with Worbla, I found someone who sells it in Ottawa! First I’ll buy a sample sheet and see how I feel about that. Could use Wonderflex too, still doing some research to decide which would be the best option for gauntlets with this kind of detail. 

Do you have experience/recommendations on worbla vs wonderflex? want to tell me all about it? :D?

I’ve personally only worked with worbla (used it for the first time last year), and was planning on making my gauntlets from worbla. I’d recommend using 2-3mm craft foam as a base (and use the foam to also test your gauntlet pattern), heat the worbla until it just turns shiny, and smooth it over the craft foam while flat, cut to shape, then curve it around your hand. I use an embossing heat gun, a hair dryer works too. Trim the worbla with scissors while it is warm and save all the off cuts which can be melted together and used for detailing!

I’ve also seen some gauntlets use thin black elastic to keep all the finger joints together, and I’d probably wear black or gold gloves underneath. The palm piece would probably need to separate from the other piece on the back of the hand to allow you to get in and out of it easily, unless you have really narrow hands!

sumptus made some really awesome gauntlets for her Darklaw cosplay from Worbla. There’s a few photos on her Instagram account which may assist in figuring out how they work!

Wonderflex has a thin layer of gauzy fabric sandwiched in it, I have played with a small sample and in my opinion it isn’t that great for small fiddly pieces. Experiment with the samples and see what works for you :)

good to know, thanks! I was leaning towards Wonderflex, actually, because I then wouldn’t need to use anything as a base. Then again, i have sooo much craft foam lying around, I gotta use it for something :P gonna at least make a pattern with it. hmmm choices choices, I’ve been going back and forth between worbla and wonderflex for a while now!

I agree about the gloves underneath, was gonna make some gloves out of that shiny gold dance spandex fabric, and before i found a local supplier for worbla/wonderflex, i was actually considering covering the foam in the fabric like in this vid, although the small fiddly bits would probably make it a lot more complicated to deal with.

I’ve spent the last three days working on Darklaw for Magfest (and Katsucon)!!! I don’t have a lot of time, but i’ll do my best ( ´艸｀) Wish me luck!!!

Making armor is such a pain, but whats worse is diamond patterned fabric, and corsets…..sighs

PS: Four is behind Darklaws wig :) i’ll be bringing her as well, along with Von Karma, probably!! ✨✨
