Gideon didn’t often stop before work to get something for breakfast but the free bagels had drawn him in and he was happy to wait in line to get one. He had come ever year for the past several years just for this. He knew he could buy his own any morning he wanted but it was habit now. He enjoyed doing it.
“Do you often work nightshift? They’ve been doing this for several years now as far as I know. It’s nice. I don’t normally come out for breakfast but now I come every year to get a bagel before work. Otherwise i don’t normally eat in the morning. Do you eat breakfast most days? I find that I run too late most of the time to do it.”
“I only recently gave them up,” Evan admitted, pausing to wrinkle his nose. “Well, if doing so in the past six months counts as recent.” It had proven to be quite the adjustment after nearly a decade of willingly doing the nightshift. He wanted time spent with family that didn’t involve his feeling like the walking dead or involve his sleeping most of the day away.
“I tend to eat at home,” He shrugged. “Nice little routine of involving my daughter with the cooking each morning. Today required being out a little earlier than planned.”
"I have some friends who work overnight and they say you either love it or hate it. I don't know if i could work that schedule I like to sleep with absolute darkness." He hated silence though and he always needed some kind of white noise going on in the background or his mind wouldn't stop running.
"My sister tells me I need to stop eating out so much but I'm not very good in the kitchen. She says she can teach me but she's a bit scary when she's cooking."
