What food is available is still expensive due to artificial scarcity imposed by Israel, and people are still forced to live in tents due to the scarcity of building materials and fuel for machinery, again imposed by Israel. Additionally the agricultural infrastructure in Gaza has been absolutely devastated and even fishing, a historically integral part of the Gazan food economy and Kareman’s husband’s profession, is extremely dangerous due to the continued blockade imposed by the Israeli navy.
