He Tian’s growth as a character keeps surprising me.

Here I was thinking he might be happy Mo chose that way of showing his feelings because it becomes part of their ritual.

The studs were the beautiful gesture that wiped away She Li’s violent action. A new piercing may be significant to Mo because it’s what he knows. He’s been taught everything is transactional and sacrifice demands a part of his flesh. He’s traumatized like that.

But most importantly because he likes defiance.

Mo asking for it it’s what makes the difference. In both cases. It isn’t nonconsensual as it was with She Li. It's an attempt at reliving the ritual. I think it's a beautiful symbol.

However, He Tian takes it a step further. Because he realizes it’s a terrifying mirror to be looking into. While it reminds him what a possessive asshole he’s been.

Even if he meant good, even if he did it out of love. He's the one giving Mo a lesson now.

He Tian’s not that disruptive kid stealing kisses anymore. He’s not writing indirect love messages either. Enough of that bullshit.

Mo needs to come clean with himself about how he feels first, not revisiting lame-ass excuses like searching for the broom to be in the same room together.

Because I think as soon as He Tian saw those broken studs salvaged from the fire he already knew.
