i feel like this is almost the same problem as like, people saying lord of the rings is generic fantasy when if you actually read it a lot of the markers of modern fantasyslop aren't actually there at all on a thematic and even plot structural level. like fate has a lot of the outward markers of misogynistic pervert waifu slop so people go in primed to expect misogynistic pervert waifu slop, because that's what it looks like from the outside, but it only looks like slop from the outside because of all the slop trying to jack fate's swag without understanding what made fate so good.
