Civic Duty, Nothing More || Chase & Gill
āAha, right. That whole thingāā Chase started, disappointed. He sank visibly with that reality, eyebrows bobbing briefly as if chiding himself for having had the thought as he gestured the other man in. Still, he watched Gill pass with a slight smile, taking him in for that moment before business was back on the table.
He should have figured it would be immediate, with the way that Gill hadnāt even bothered exchanging pleasantries it was painfully obvious what sort of meeting this was. Chase glanced to the manila envelope and pulled a face before reaching out to take it, looking at it without even opening it.
āHuhā well, lucky me. I donāt really need that, but Iāll take your time,ā he replied, thumbing the cover open to see the amount before closing it again and settling it against his hip with a nod of his chin toward the other man.
āCāmon, Gillā what kind of greeting is this, anyways? No āhello, how are you?ā Itās nice to see you too. Itās been a while. You look great,ā he huffed some offense with his smirk, eyes glancing over Gill again before more judgmentally to his own attire as he pushed his hair back from his face. āI only wish Iād had some warning or Iād have dressed better.ā
While Chase looked over the contents of the envelope, Gill let himself glance around the hotel room. Two beds. Both occupied, if their surroundings were to be believed. A girl, most likely; some of the belongings left out seemed a little too feminine to belong to Chase, even for as androgynous as he could be at times. Gill was tempted to be nosierā to pace, perhaps, and get a better look around while he did so. But then again, he wasn't entirely sure heād like anything he saw. He already didn't like any of this on the surface as it was.
āIām not here to chat,ā he replied quietly, turning his icy gaze bad to the redhead.Ā āMy time is valuable, Chase. Iām here for your debt, or Iām here to coach you on how to pay it back. Thatās all. I couldnāt care less how you dressed.ā Though he wasnāt able to resist the urge to peek, if only briefly. Under the layer of ice he was still only human, after all.Ā
Maybe he should have called ahead, just to make sure he wasnāt caught in a situation like this. Though typically, according to the city, one tried to make their visit as random as possible in events like thisā hoping to avoid the potential fate of missing your debtor as they attempted to evade your call. Maybe I should have just waited in the hallway instead,Ā Gill thought to himself.Ā
Oh well. Nothing for it now.
āIf you donāt need my help, then just give me the cityās money and Iāll be on my way. And if you donāt have it, just say so.ā
