I love Dream Pets! These 1960s stuffed animals are filled with styrofoam pellets and hard as a rock so not very cuddly but they have a style that Beanie Babies do not and never will. I've known people with massive collections and I've loved them all. This is my first. Color me smitten. 99 cents at Thrift Town.
Some recent record acquisitions. Most notably the phallic phabulousness of "Organ Fantasy"...paging Dr. Freud!
The creepy Euro Kinder who haunted my youth. The tragic brilliant film The Red Balloon (99 cents) commemorated in this picture book and the surreal Pippi Longstocking TV series (3.99) with no dubs or subtitles on DVD. Das ist cuckoo!!

Wish that I had space in my place for this beauty! Only 20 bucks at Salvation Army...with all the tags and manuals and the original box which had a Christmas gift tag on it that said "to Grandma". Sorry kids..Grandma never used it. It would make a great DIY project...you could make a lamp out of it...or even better put speakers inside it and sit in campy glorious luxury as you listen to music. I hope some burlesque dancer and savvy drag queen picked it up. It deserves a nice home.
I love Enoch Light!
The creator of the Command Records label and one of the true sonic pioneers he is best remembered for the Persuasive Percussion series of albums in the 60s where jazz and showtune standards were given the hi-fi stereophonic Enoch light treatment ...meaning the music would jump from speaker to speaker so you knew…THIS WAS STEREO STEREO STEREO.
Listening to the recordings today they may sound technologically naive but nevertheless truly odd, energetic and happy. He produced dozens if not hundreds of albums for Command including his own Enoch Light and The Light Brigade, early Moog albums, The Free Design, The Ray Charles Singers and the one commercial album by friend and fellow musical innovator… jingle king Hugh Heller.
So naturally if i find one of his creations in decent shape I will pick it up. This 1967 beauty “Patterns in Sound Volume 2” is not on Command records but instead sub-label Project 3 which boasts that all it releases are mastered at 35MM on magnetic film enhancing their audio fidelity…like the back of the jacket boasts “Project 3 has achieved TOTAL SOUND!” whatever that is…cool sleeve, cool retro lounge hi-fi muzak, cool purchase $1 at Community Thrift.
