#tbt (📷 by @blueboyny 14 years ago on the 30th of this month i moved back to nyc briefly (9 months) due to the ‘08 financial crash. all my upstate jobs & dj gigs had dried up. i thought going back would help. my bestie @blueboyny came up to help pack & clear all and @michaelpalm drove a truck loaded with my stuff and Philippe with his van! I tried & it didn’t happen. nyc was licking it’s own wounds. I lost the promised jobs (back in retail) & the bklyn apt since i had no job. causing me to live with mom in howard beach (no beach really) & all my stuff. all this lead me back up here where Philippe had me join his landscaping team & been back here ever since..was lucky. #tbt It was 15 years ago this month August of 2007 that I had the pleasure to go into the then Hudson Opera House (now @hudsonhallny ) to photograph the fading and weathering opera/playhouse + political wheat pasted posters on the walls of the uppermost part of the backstage. While there I also photographed a series of the panels of peeling paint. (The complete series is too vast to put online & I hope to print and exhibit it) Initially, it was for preservation purposes. These were on one of my old data dvds i thought i had lost all these years that was mistitled “tunes”. #tbt From my early years in Hudson to ‘18 I’ve been finding more portraits i’ve either never posted (or printed) and didn’t appreciate at the time. I’m thankful everyday to each friend that gave me their time to sit for me. * I added a very personal one that was shot in ‘09 from a special time in my life that i wasn’t present or ready for. #tbt these are from springtime a year ago. grateful to have had & incredible photo session with friend & designer @marine_penvern with our models/incredibly talented friends and new ones @ellaloudon & @rgnld.healr Marine chose & found this incredible location (that i had passed a million times but missed) It was my one shoot before covid came into full effect. I miss and look forward to photographing again..shooting fashion & art. These were highlights of that day. I shot video as well (which i’m finally ready to edit and put out there) Thank you, Grazie, Merci to you Marine for trusting my eye being combined with yours. It was an exciting pairing. #tbt los angeles ,ca ‘94 “take me away” the 2nd image from my old negs from the late 80’s early 90’s. (fuji slide film cross-processed to negatives 🎞 ) self portrait shot in in the apartment i was staying in at studio city while my friend (and eventual ex) was working on costuming spielberg’s film amistad at the time. loved this self portrait, the light, being nude and revealing that part of me. it was my first time in l.a. first time on the west coast. california. film studios & tons of actors wherever we went. mostly unknown. a whole new world. very different from nyc. I remembered i was offended that smoking wasn’t allowed in bars & clubs lol (but still did it as a typical new yorker) my dad had just passed away & i freaked out. i had never experienced a death so close and in my immediate family. he was only 56. the added part was being the only son & oldest sibling. so much responsibility i wasn’t ready for or capable of. I was 26 years old and it was a huge emo blur. I left queens,ny with friends to step away from it all. of course now as the adult i am..i could never imagine picking up & leaving my mom and sister to handle all the fallout. i still have regret from those actions but knew i was no good to anyone going to drinking & drugs initially and then flying away. i had left school & all i knew. dad’s birthday is this sunday. easter sunday & brought all this up and this photograph. I remembered the mixed feelings of utter loss & freedom from everyone and everything at the same time.
