The comment makes him snort, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. 

“It’s called skill, kid.” He’s in a good enough mood to tease, at least. That’s a plus. And she's still here, and doesn't seem worse than last time he saw her. Another plus. … Even if she is trying to break out. It won’t work. It’ll just fuck up the spoon. He crosses his arms and leans against the door frame. 

“You seem like you’re feelin’ better.” He remarks flatly. “Got your energy back.” And the snark. Yet another plus, though this one was headache inducing on the best days. This isn’t one of the best days. 

“You might wanna reconsider that. Cause you ain’t doing shit ‘til you’re back up to speed.”

“I’m not convinced. “ Ellie muttered rather bitterly, one of her bright eyes peering out from darkened matts of auburn hair. She knew escape was really just from one hot pan to another slightly less hot, but at least Logan seemed to at least try and understand.

“Does it really fucking matter if I feel good? One wrong step, one stubbed toe, and we all go on fucking lock down. At least Stryker had me locked away.”

The teen stood up and shoved the spoon, or what was left of it, under her pillow. She knew he saw, and she obviously didn’t care too much. “So I don’t get anything for my terrible run-in with…. What was his name? Looks like Kurt.”

The idea of sending Ellie into such a place, with so much danger, and those awful creatures that called themselves men made Steve pale. Steve quickly shook his head, making a noise of disapproval, setting a hand on Ellie's shoulder.

"No. Not there..." he replied softly. "Gimme like... two days... Okay?" he offered gently. "Then, we can meet back up here at this spot. You keep your secrets, I keep mine."

He knew Ellie didn't trust him, when he was snooping around, watching her ride her horse from one spot in the abandoned town. It always had him curious what she was guarding, but never enough to betray her trust and break in.

"Just take the legs and bury 'em. They'll keep in the snow, hopefully."

The frown that turned her expression down. This sat far too long of a place with likely other hunters. It made her thankful that she had remembered to cover her tracks every time she left on Callus.

“I can keep them with me and prepare the meat, but I really don’t mind going with you. If it is that dangerous. Two is better than one.”

Steve was someone that puzzled her brain. He was soft spoken, but she knew that behind the sheepish expression. He had fire, and refused to scare her off with being too forwards.

I don't know what he did, but boy he is getting a lecture.

A low whistle escaped his lips. "Antibiotics, huh? That's hard to find..." Slowly, he scratched at the back of his neck, thinking long and hard. "I have an idea of where some might be... But is it worth the extra leg..." he muttered. If he was caught, they'd kill him for sure... But he needed the food.

"Alright. Alright. I'll go get you some antibiotics. Don't let that meat spoil, in the meantime... It might take me a bit to get em," he warned softly. "And if I don't come back from it... Uh... Well, I've enjoyed your company during this winter."

Ellie hesitated, actually paused in concern at his words. She still had hope to save everyone, and yet here she was sending this man to his likely death. But it was for Joel, and without Joel she was stranded. Never to make it out of the state let alone all the way to Salt Lake.

Was it worth it to send one to his death for the other to live?

She chewed on the inside of her lip. "Can you tell me where it is? I'm smaller, can probably sneak in and out much easier. I'll give you the legs now for the information."

Steve admired Ellie, quite honestly. Independent, all on her own... He was in the same boat, surviving after his father passed. It was a feeling of kinship he could label as a sibling, something he never really had. It felt nice, being honest. They could relate to one another's struggles.

"Medicine..." he muttered, gently slipping off his pack with a hum as he started to search through it, pulling out bits of scrap he had been piling together. "Lessee... Yeah, I got some rubbing alcohol, uhh... Basic bandages, some hydrogen peroxide... Got some gasoline that I managed to salvage, too... That enough to get me a leg?" he offered, looking up at Ellie with a smile. "If not, I can toss in some scrap?"

It was how it had always been for her. Born with no parent to claim her besides the ones that adopted the role at the orphanage. She was raised on her own merits, even if those merits were questionable for anyone of any age.

At the offered supplies she presses her lips together into a tight blue lipped expression. It was far from what she needed, but the peroxide could mean life or death for the old man under the house she had taken shelter in.

"I'll take the peroxide and.... some scrap and I'll give you two legs if you find antibiotics."

Steve let out a soft laugh, giving the other teen a mischievous grin. "I mean, you didn't miss, so... I say I did nothing wrong," he teased happily, though keeping his voice down. "Need help with bagging it? I could use a cut of deer..."

The winter was brutal, and a loner like him needed all the help he could get. Carefully maneuvering around Ellie had been... a questionable strategy, but... So far, she had been good to keep around. Sure, she was still guarded, but he figured they could call one another friends by now. "A lil meat, and I can give you something... Supplies, ammo? Willing to trade for even just a scrap."

"You're lucky! I was about to fire." She bristled, though her whispy smirk was enough to dash any real tells that she was actually angry with the older. "I mean I don't think I am going to be eating it before it goes bad." Ellie admitted before returning her gaze to the deer through her scope.

Finally, she inhaled, then exhaled, firing off the shot to cleanly kill the beast with nothing more than a flurry of wings and the sound of the buck hitting the snow below. "I don't mind sharing if you have medicine or ammo."

"Hey nerd," Steve hummed, giving Ellie a noogie, ruffling her hair. "What're you up to?"

"Oh come-" She swatted uselessly at Steve as she was grabbed, her less than clean hair now standing up in multiple places from the toussle. "You almost messed up my shot."

"There is a deer that I've been following for hours, and dammit I'm bagging it tonight."
