You inhale the arid night air, and the dryness of it feels like it’s cracking your lungs.
Or maybe that’s just the splinters of your ribcage, tearing through you from where the thudding of your pusher had shattered them into a million pieces. You were waiting for the torrid of green blood to spill from your lips, some physical evidence of the heartrending panic that has overtaken you. Your pacing through the messy hive has left a path - evidence of your bent backed trek from respite block to meal block. Without realizing it, your sharp eyed stare had been searching for some scrap of evidence. Something to hold to yourself and remind yourself of the things that you knew about the world.
For years, you had been convinced the dreams that chased you down every night had culminated to a singular, glistening truth. There was only one possible person in the entirety of the universe they could be about - because there was only one person in the entirety of the universe who bled that bright, eye searing color.
You could see the red dripping down his chin, a relic of a previous scuffle. It was so bright, so beautiful, so unlike the muddled colors of everyone else you knew.
But now… You reread the multiple confirmations for the hundredth time. An entire race out there, all bleeding that same hue, each one of them a new possibility. Maybe this was why you’d all but had to force Eridan into what should have been natural? Why even now, with you in his hive, he acted so repulsed? You chewed your lip until you felt one of your razor teeth break skin, the warmth of your blood spill over your mouth. Not as hot as his.
The blood was hot to the touch when you reached for it, brushed it off of a face whose features were unclear. His entire body seemed to burn hot, so much warmer than even the skin of the rust blooded one whose hue was so close to his own. You smiled, you couldn’t help it, giddy with the mere proximity.
Your eyes light on a scrap of cloth on the ground, stained with the dark, dried remnants of the familiar color. You snatch it up without thinking, turn it over in your hand, study it so closely even though you’ve seen the color a million times. Your own blood drips onto it, absorbing into the material, mingling with the edges of the stain already present.
You don’t even feel the pain. You only know that there’s something wrong when you hear the steady drip, drip, drip of liquid. When you tear your gaze away from him, away from the strange expression, you see your own olive blood on the ground, mingling with the cherry of his where it’s fallen so carelessly.
The cloth crumples in your hand before your tears make it onto it as well, and you shove the sullied thing into your belt in favor of scribbling out a hasty note to pin to the door as you rush out. You only have a few hours of night left, and you intend to make them count.
Never been anything but scarlet, to my knowledge. Shit next to never washes outta fabric, either. Used to have a white cotton longcoat, but hah. That one got decommissioned ‘bout a week after I got it.
SC---ARLET--- is a very diffurent color than RED. I need to know if it’s RED.
ah. i can’t speak for every alien species out there, but you’re right. for the most part, they’re not blood colors. humans, which are the most plentiful other group you will find here, only have one blood color. bright red.
