For Khaled,
Under the light of a full moon, she melted into his black honey.Â
All summer he left her sticky, stained in salt and sand.
He kissed her like seaside kisses seashore.
Two waves crash.
They took shelter in the huts of each other.
Running through deserts lost in ancient land.
So much love making the love making was mad.
Across cities, across continents, time zones were irrelevant.
For awhile, the music never stopped playing.
But it slowed, and it changed, like an old record player.
As the weather cooled so did the honey, he hardened.
And the moon she continued to soften.
Waxing and waning her way around the sky.
Hoping that honey wouldn't stop pouring sweetness into her light.
But the moon knew she was scared of the dark.
So she told honey, goodbye.
And the white moon went black.
Salty tears in Seattle taste like Sinai.
She promised herself  losing something so sweet could never make her cry.
The moon was just scared of whatâs on her other side.
The taste of black honey still stuck to her lips.
She misses the honey of summer that would stick to her hips.
She dies at the thought he might forget the moon still exists.
So the moon will promise honey thisâŚ
If they ever get the chance to walk side by side again,
white moon and black honey can forever be friends.
