i am obsessed with overcompensating. weird take but i love the plot twist about miles being straight actually lol. it’ s not free, it’s not just deceptive, and it’s actually the first time I started to really understand Miles’ character. he was not, in fact, gay, but very very lonely and regretting his decision to go to an american college and benny was nice and his only friend. which is the most relatable and honest thing ever i think.

Here in Louisiana we have several former plantations and sites of chattel slavery that have been converted into museums - most notably the Whitney Plantation in Wallace, Louisiana, which is owned and operated by a non-profit museum dedicating to telling the stories, preserving the histories, and remembering the lives of the enslaved folks who suffered at the hands of planters and their ilk.

Nottoway is not like the Whitney. Nottoway is a fucking resort, a "historic property" that existed solely to make money off of folks who wanted to add some of that antebellum charm to their birthday, vacation, or destination wedding. Fuck the Nottoway. Fuck every plantation-themed wedding. Fuck those who mourn its loss.

Long live those who celebrate the destruction of this horrid institution. Long live the folks who've traveled to witness the fire and pour libations for their enslaved ancestors who suffered and died there.
