women on here will read hundreds of pages of terrible books and poetry and essays just to find the few out of context lines that make sense when joined by other media they consumed and then theyll even arrange it like a careful florist n add some art to it that fits with the theme . like thank you God i love you all so much for it
this is my quick ramble on abuela after watching encanto for like the fifth time. i’m so sorry if this has been talked about before but i need to write this out of my system. also, this is from my perspective, sharing connections to my own ethnicity. i comment on my own history mostly due to my lack of knowledge of hispanic history. (i’m trying to learn tho, if any of you had any links, or can point me in the right direction pls lemme know) i don’t mean to offend, these are simply my findings after watching the film various times and opinions coming from hispanic people,
ALSO i’m not spreading any hate or anything, i’m sorry if it comes off that way.
mentions of generational trauma
OKAY
for those who don’t know, i’m a native. for those who don’t know about canada’s history with its community of first nations people, you would know we experienced generational traumas to this very day. to put it short, the government tried to eliminate my culture, tried to “kill the indian in the child.” back in the day, my ancestors endured horrors against them as did other people of colour.
i don’t know much regarding the hispanic community's history but considering this movie is about generational trauma (from what i’ve gathered), it still affects today’s generations YEARS LATER, i can only relate in that sense. i will never know truly, but encanto is a beautiful movie that portrays important representation to its target audience.
REGARDING THE MOVIE, abuela specifically
i cannot stand all this slander towards her. i’ve skipped over the text posts about her saying abuela is the villain in the movie. but since i’m deep in encanto tik tok, i keep seeing clips of y8 people (some, not all) bashing on abuela. and i get it, i wasn’t fond of how she acted when i first watched the film. but after watching it, reading, and listening to other people's opinions on the movie, she is not the villain. she never was. she’s obviously a complex character.
and knowing what she had gone through - losing her husband due to the soldiers, grief, raising triplets as a widowed woman all by herself. she had to do what she needed to survive. just like people within my community. and when she apologizes to mirabel at the end, people don’t validate that as genuine. it wasn't like usual apologies in other movies, where it’s heartfelt and everyone is happy-go-lucky like nothing happened.
from my community, oftentimes elders cannot talk about it, or even acknowledge the damage their abusive behaviours are doing to their families. which then leads to more cycles of trauma.
BUT do you know who did? ABUELA. she relived something traumatizing for her, and she was vulnerable with her granddaughter. abuela may not have changed 100% at that moment but acknowledging her faults is a step in the right fucking direction.
i don't think people slandering abuela understand that?? or understand poc hardships/history
he always buys the same brand of cigarettes, and the same colour lighter. he has used the exact same brand of soap since he was a kid. when he makes his coffee in the morning he always adds the same amount of milk, one sugar, stirs it three times clockwise and once in the opposite direction, blows on it twice, and then takes his first sip.
so imagine your surprise the day you walk into sakanoshita market and ukai keishin, creature of habit, your perfectly predictable boyfriend of four and a half years, is nowhere to be found.
because there's no way that the man standing behind the counter, apron on, twirling a cigarette between his fingers, with neatly combed brown hair is him.
it looks a lot like him, to be sure.
the same gentle slope of his nose, the same sharp brown eyes that light up when he spots you stepping through the door, the same little smile that you've seen curl up an identical set of lips countless times.
"what the hell did you do?"
the man who looks like (but is definitely not) ukai keishin's smile falters.
"hello to you too, sweetheart," he half-says, half-laughs. "what a terrible way to greet someone."
alright, this might be keishin.
"your hair," you finally take a step into the store, towards the counter, eyes still fixed on the head of hair that looks a lot like your boyfriend's but definitely isn't, because it isn't the same shade of peroxide yellow that Keishin had been dying it since the two of you were in high school.
the hand not fiddling with the cigarette reaches up to touch the brunette locks atop his head, though he's careful not to tousle them too much.
"you don't like it?" he asks, an uncharacteristic lilt of insecurity in his voice.
you pause.
"I... I just... give me a second," you say, pinching the bridge of your nose. you draw a few deep breaths in, eyes closed, before looking at him again.
"so?" he says, an eyebrow (that for the first time in over ten years matches the shade of hair on his head) cocked. "what's the verdict?"
you step up to the counter, reaching out across it to run your fingers through the strands. they're softer than they'd ever been, and a little shorter too -- having clearly been freshly trimmed.
"you look..." you grapple for the right words. "really hot."
and you know without a shadow of a doubt that the man on the other side of the counter couldn't be anyone other than ukai keishin when you see the smile -- wide and toothy -- that stretches across his handsome face.
"you think so?" he asks, dropping his unlit cigarette in the ashtray in front of him, circling the counter to wrap you in his arms. there's no one around, so you let him -- though you're not sure an audience would have stopped you, anyway.
you can only nod as he holds you tight against him, smiling down at you with that same grin.
"why the sudden change?" you ask him, hands pressed against the front of his apron as your eyes search his face.
"well..." keishin looks away, his cheeks puffing out a little as he mulls over his response. "we're getting older you know -- can't have you walking around looking like you're dating a delinquent forever."
"but you were a cute delinquent," you laugh, pressing a kiss to the corner of his pursed lips.
"and I had something important to do today, too. wanted to clean myself up a bit for it," Keishin adds, his eyes scanning your face. the playful look from a moment prior has melted away, and as you stare up at him, you're reminded just how very handsome of a man that boy from your high school volleyball team has grown up to be.
your brows knit together in confusion. "oh yeah?" you ask, pulling away slightly. "and what was that?"
"I went to see your parents," keishin said, eyes fixed unwaveringly to yours, "to see if maybe instead of you dating a delinquent they'd be alright with you marrying one who was reformed."
Hi, I don't know if you take request yet. I love your writings of Luisa x reader and I couldn't help but think this!! Where Grandma Alma sees how Luisa slowly falls in love with the reader just like she did with her husband, somewhat like a narration but from Alma's perspective?
I love it!
Abuela Madrigal had taken to sitting in the square, gently guiding Mirabel on what it meant to lead Encanto. Occasionally she would go on walks with her through the street. Telling her the history behind each family so Mirabel would know them as intimately as Abuela had. There was very little that went unobserved. Including Luisa’s little crush.
Abuela had seen you grab a piece of masonry that had fallen as Luisa moved a flat of bricks. You walked along with her, lone brick in hand, striking up a conversation. You had been known to Luisa before, but it was as though she saw you with new eyes. She set down the flat at it’s destination, and you handed her the brick. She said something, presumably an expression of gratitude and put it down. You waved off her thanks and took off on your way. She touch the place where your hands had brushed, blushing softly.
Days passed, and it seems you found any excuse to be around Luisa. Abuela couldn’t help but remember how Pedro did the same. Those were back in the days when she was nothing but apprentice to a midwife. He would find any excuse. ‘Señora, let me carry that bucket.’ ‘Señora those rags look heavy.’ You were far les help than Pedro was, and she smiled every time she watched Luisa hip check you out of her way.
On day as she guided Mirabel through town, telling her about the Melendez’s, she watched Luisa come around the corner, a rose in her hair, and a bright blush on her face, followed by a very self satisfied looking you. She pressed Dolores about what happened later and found that you had stolen a kiss placing the rose in her hair. She held a calm expression, but was bursting with joy inside.
Eventually you were invited to meet the entire family to declare your intentions to wed. Luisa tried to hold still and not fidget, but she couldn’t stop smiling. You looked just as enamored as always. Abuela gave you her blessing and you asked Luisa for her hand. Tears slid down Luisa’s face as she nodded, her smiled radiant. She hugged you tight, and Abuela finally granted the table a warm smile.
Whenever I see a buff woman, or a taller woman than me irl I'm instantly smitten.
I stare at them ✨ respectfully ✨ until they're out of my sight and I tell whoever I'm with "she was tall 😌" with nO SHAME AT ALL.
So, like, imagine this
- Reader/OC/WHOEVER, minding their own business in their small town in the mountains, paying no attention to the Madrigals bc psshh they have magical abilities, blah blah blah the whole town adores them who cares
- Reader is out doing some errands bc they are their family's golden child but also the oldest with high expectations, so if they're caught lackin' then reader would get into shit
- Anyways as they're going about their day, the neighbor is suddenly screaming and waving frantically at them as they walk by
- and oh my god
- the rumbling and cracks of the neighbor's house is literally about to fall and crush them but reader is paralyzed in their spot
- as reader is watching the concrete coming down with wide eyes, they move a second too late to get out of the way. reader tries to leap out of the way
- they land just a smidge in reach of safety but the shadow of the wall is still shadowing over them. reader accepts their fate being smooshed against the ground
-but the weight of concrete doesn't hit them, it doesn't even touch reader
-looking back over their shoulders, they see the famous luisa madrigal, who isn't even breaking a goddamn sweat as she holds the fallen wall from crushing them
- luisa effortlessly pushes the wall back in its place, the neighbor praising the woman for her hardwork, reader is still staring up at her dumbfounded
- you know how an anime character is star-struck and has stars in their eyes? that's reader right now
- "are you okay?"
- absolutely not
- reader had been fed up with the glorified madrigal family and their powers but experiencing it first hand???
-this strong woman saved their life and now they are instantly infatuated
- luisa helps reader up, and is still holding hands when reader immediately embraces the woman
- reader gushes out their appreciation, teary eyed bc my god, that would've been such a tragic thing to happen
- reader learns to appreciate the magical family from that day on
- luisa begins to get teased by her sisters and cousins when she tells them one day, that reader is often in her presence, sometimes starting a conversation or admiring her from afar
- "i think they have a crush on you"
- "i did what i would've done anyways?"
- "but reader never liked any of us and now they're wrapped around your finger!"
Nobody’s Fault But Mine [ Original!Percival Graves one-shot ]
I had originally written this back four years ago when the FBAWTFT fandom was in full swing. This one, however, is a rewritten version that was published on a few other sites four months ago. I decided to post it here.
So, with that said. This is the rewritten version of “Nobody’s Fault But Mine” the last moments of Percival Graves.
The room was dark, lacking any source of natural light. Only a dim light was hanging from the ceiling. The prisoner was chained to the wall and was locked in a magic-built cage. The cage itself was not made with typical metal rods but invisible rods that taunted the man. If he somehow escaped his chains, he would not have been able to escape regardless. The magic was specifically constructed to keep him in. One touch could be fatal to his already fragile state.
It felt like forever ago since he last felt the warmth of the sun. The room itself was damp and cold, his clothes of what was left did not help retain any heat. He wishes he did not take the simple pleasures in life for granted. Percival dearly missed the feeling of the sun enveloping him that almost felt like a loving embrace.
Percival does not know how long he was imprisoned by the Dark Lord but it truly felt like an eternity.
The night he was bested by that bastard keeps replaying in his mind. He wishes he can go back to that night. Word got around saying that Gellert Grindelwald was on the prowl and what did the Director of Magical Security, head of MACUSA's Department of Magical Law Enforcement do? He simply walked back home after a long shift at the office with his Elite Aurors. He did not think much of anything out of the ordinary - his home had protective wards after all. Yet, the cunning bastard must have been watching him for months, dare he say years? He was caught off guard and woke up to see a pair of mismatched eyes staring him down.
Percival thinks of the different ways he should have defended himself. He can say with confidence though, he put up a good fight against the bastard. Until he was shot with an intense cursed spell that should have cost Percival his arm.
Alas, no matter how he should have gone about the intrusion, he is still here. In this cold, damp room. Where he slumps against the wall, farthest from where Grindelwald would be outside the cage.
With a wheezy sigh, Percival slumped even more and he decided to just lay down. He winced as his body's wounds and infections screamed in protest at the movement. His eyelids grew heavier, and since there was nothing else to do besides sleep, wait for the Dark Lord to arrive to feed and water him.
He had been losing hope of getting rescued anyways...
What?
Lost hope?
Percival, if he had the energy, would have cursed himself. His father up above would surely get his wand in a knot if he found out his son was thinking like this. That thought alone made the corner of his lip twitch up in an attempt of a smile.
Graves worked with wizards and witches that trained and studied vigorously to become Aurors. He personally trained most of the ones on his Elite team back in the day. He was known to be one of the greatest Aurors, incredibly skilled with an honourable sense of justice. His team respected him, as well as his long-time dear friend and boss Madame President.
Considering they were up against a madman, he understood that his people would need time to figure out the Grindelwald imposter.
Surely, Miss Porpentina Goldstein unravelled this dilemma. She was headstrong and a valiant Auror. There was no doubt she would have suspected something out of the ordinary by now.
The young woman reminded him so much of himself. The main focal point of taking Goldstein under his wing. At the beginning of her training days, she already had a strong desire to stand up for what is right, sought justice with her people, her community just like he had. Percival knew she would one day be an excellent addition to his team, not to say he already saw a huge amount of potential in her. Which is why he pushed her harder than anyone else. He is certain Goldstein will surpass him and succeed in this career far more than he could.
Restoring his dwindling faith, his eyes finally shut and he fell into a dreamless slumber.
Days passed him by.
And he wondered why Grindelwald did not show.
Eventually, he stopped feeling the hunger pangs. However, every movement jostled Percival's already disgruntled body, driving needles and pins throughout his body, his back, his skull... everywhere. It even felt like his bones were aching.
Wallowing in his seemingly never-ending pain, he did not hear shuffling in the darker part of the room. It was only when a sound coming from the cage did the man put his guards up. The sudden sound of the invisible cage zapping something. There were no sounds of distress or pain following.
"W-Why did you lie to me?" The voice was soft yet held betrayal and hurt within its tone.
Turning his head to the source, he instantly froze.
Credence.
Struggling to get up, he saw the same pale young boy but this time there was black smoke surrounding him, flecks that strayed too far from the boy descended to the floor. His eyes were white, dark circles hung below his more sculpted face.
The boy's voice cracked. "You hurt me. They are gone because of me."
"I know, my boy. I know. I apologize, I-I promised to teach you." Percival's words were hushed, having needed more energy to speak. His face scrunched up, tears stinging at his eyes.
Was it his time already? He has never had hallucinations before.
"You are a coward. Who is weak and useless." Credence hissed venomously.
"I failed you-"
"You promised me, Mr. Graves!" roared Credence.
Percival shut his eyes tightly, emotional and physical pain washing over him, overwhelming him. He uttered to himself, apologizing for being such an incompetent wizard, for letting this young boy down...
He did not know when the hallucination of Credence subsided but the words still echoed through his mind.
Coward.
Weak.
Useless.
Was he truly what Credence said? Possibly. He would not be here if he wasn't. However, the words cut harder than he thought. He wondered what his Aurors would think of him when he was found.
Would he ever be trusted again to be their Director?
Madam President Seraphina, one of his oldest and dearest friends. She must be so disappointed. His underling, Tina Goldstein must be mortified with the fact the "greatest" wizard in her department was so easily defeated. Credence must have been so hurt when Percival stopped showing up on Tina's behalf.
His pain was steadily going away.
It brought him some comfort, he will only be dealing with his emotional turmoil.
Or...
Nothing at all...
He realized he found it difficult to keep himself conscious.
"I suppose... no... Nobody's fault. Bu- but mmm...ine."
And just as Percival Graves exhaled his last breath, a loud rumbling noise and lights came flooding into the room. Voices of people talking in ushered tones as magic spelled around him...
writing fanfiction is just. i’m being so creative and original. i’m plagiarizing everyone by accident. i’m a genius. i’m cringe. i’m too angsty. i’m too cheesy. this is not in character. it doesn’t matter that it’s not in character because these are my characters now. i love my hobby. this is the worst possible use of my time. i’m seeking validation. i’m projecting my own personal problems onto this story and i’m barely hiding it. i know so many words and i’m using all of them wrong. im on tumblr posting about it instead of writing it.
This is my first Luca related fanfiction! I fell in love with the movie, and I had to write more content of my sons and daughter hehe. Hope you like it!
Six months.
It's crazy to think half the year has already passed. Alberto never expected his past summer to turn out the way it did but he's pleased nonetheless.
Meeting Luca, and then Giulia, winning the Portorosso Cup...
Spending years admiring the town from afar, he was still adjusting to calling this place home. Sure, the town and its people adapted quickly from being sea monster hunters to lovers of sea monsters. But it was different from the time he spent on the island.
He now has friends that adore him and gained not only one family Massimo and Machiavelli, but also Luca's parents and grandmother. He also got along with the other kids in town, and he helps the elderly sea monster couple from time to time.
Again, it will take some time to fully adjust, but everything will be fine.
Perfectly fine.
Alberto will have to wait five more months tops for Luca to return. Only then will he be a hundred and ten percent fine.
"You are drifting again, Piccolo (little one)." Massimo's gruff voice brought the young boy out of his thoughts. He looks up at the older man, who he now sees as a father figure. "Anything you want to discuss?"
Alberto hesitated, mouth hanging open but no words came out. It would be silly anyway, wouldn't it? He thought shyly, breaking his gaze from the man. Not that Luca is silly, no! Well, yes, but not silly to be thinking of him... Right? The young one is once again brought back from his thoughts with a grunt.
"Nah," Alberto replied with a dismissive wave and he tried giving a reassuring smile to the fisherman. Who didn't seem convinced but didn't want to keep pressing on the topic for his son's sake.
"Alright, give me a holler if you change your mind." Massimo reminded, and the boy nodded his head in acknowledgement. "Finish up your plate-" Alberto instantly grabbed the last handful of pasta and shoved it in his mouth, "wash up and try to get some sleep. Got a long day ahead of us tomorrow."
"Don't gotta tell me twice!"
He jumped out of his seat and raced towards the stairs. Heading to the washroom, he washed up and went straight to his room. Hearing the click of the door closing Alberto lets out a soft sigh.
He plopped himself at his desk, where several letters from both Luca and Giulia scattered the surface. There were pictures of the two of them, sometimes just Luca. Many drawings and trinkets were sent to him.
His favourite of them all being two photos of Luca. The first showing him intently writing a letter to Alberto, with his eyebrows furrowed and the tip of his tongue sticking out in concentration. The second was taken a few moments after the first, a frantic Luca covering his writing with his arms, big brown eyes staring at the camera. With flushed cheeks that would shame a tomato.
Alberto often reread his letters, searching and scanning which one he wrote that would have made him so shy about.
All of a sudden, his fond memories that spread warmth and a sense of belonging, now felt bitter.
<◉ )))><< <◉ )))><< <◉ )))><<
Once he was absolutely sure Massimo was asleep, Alberto quietly crawled out of bed and tip-toed to the window. Opening the window, he winced as it creaked.
His heart about dropped to his stomach when he heard the creaking of his own door opening. Jerking his head to peer over his shoulder, he slumped in relief.
"Machiavelli!" He hissed at the feline, who sat at the doorway. Eyes peering into his soul, judging him. "Ai, I won't be gone long. Don't wake up papà!" He ushered out.
With that, the boy lept onto the tree branch that leads to the treehouse. He climbed down, careful not to let gravity take him. Looking up at the house, he held his breath and he only left when he heard Massimo's snoring.
He snuck through the back and ran to the town square.
There, awaited three statues humbly named after The Underdogs. Luca and himself were in their sea monster forms, standing proud with an even prouder Giulia standing between them.
He walked to the smaller sea monster statue. Smuca, he liked to call it. It was an inside joke between him and Luca after he first showed Alberto his makeshift lookout.
"Ciao, Smuca." The words were barely audible.
This is stupid, Alberto huffed in annoyance but immediately shook his head. Silenzio, Bruno. Coming to talk to this version of Luca did help to a point but he wanted the real person. Alberto was craving the real thing.
"Sometimes... When I feel selfish- Shellfish," Alberto chuckled to himself, a small yet sad smile reaching his lips. "I wish you stayed here. Wished you didn't have to be so far."
"I miss you every day. Both of you guys... But especially you." His eyes began to sting with tears. "I get lonely."
Alberto lets out a shuddering breath in an attempt to calm down. He didn't mean to come here to cry. He just wanted to talk... Vent about how he's feeling? He should've just spoken with Massimo.
"I'm really proud of you, Luca. I really am, and I can't wait to see you again." Alberto rests his head on Smuca's leg, tears freely rolling down his cheeks. "I just-" a loud sob escaped from his mouth.
He hunched over, bringing his knees to his chest and lets himself cry. Not caring if anyone can hear.
"I want y-you to come home now. What if you d-don't come back?" He sniffles. "Ever?"
"Please don't.. forget about me, Luca. I miss you." Luca looks up at the Smuca statue. "I love you..."
