On 5th March 2019, I will be boarding the Trans-Siberian Railway, travelling all the way from Moscow to Beijing. This a trip that I’ve been dreaming of and working towards for years - and I’d love for you to be part of the journey!

I want to self-publish a 40+ page, full-colour illustrated account of my Trans-Siberian adventure - jam-packed full of humorous observations, beautiful landscapes (captured in situ) and handwritten notes from the pages of my journals.

Nina Cosford’s GIRLS Illustrated

“I really enjoyed making the Hannah in New York image because it was the first time I’d ever painted a GIRLS piece (I used watercolors instead of my usual brush marker pens and colored pencils). I think it captures the feeling of excitement and ambition of being young and unsure of the future, as the city looms over her. It’s based on the episode in Season 4 when Hannah gets her first paycheck from her “grown up” job. She spots a lovely dress in a shop window, buys it and strides down the street feeling at the top of her game.” – Nina Cosford, GIRLS Illustrated Artist

“I try to depict a range of scenes from quiet to hilarious, touching to manic. The show covers such a maelstrom of emotions and themes and I try to translate as much of this as I can into my drawings. I enjoy capturing a pivotal moment in an episode, for example when a character has an epiphany or reaches melting point. “I wanted to simplify my way of drawing for the project, and, as I wasn’t all that familiar with drawing people at the time, I began to develop a more stripped back style – bringing out certain facial features and trying to capture their expressions and mannerisms in a slightly more graphic, bold way … I also love drawing out key quotes in the big speech bubbles with the little head of the character underneath – there are some genius lines in GIRLS that will stick with me for a long time to come.” – Nina Cosford, GIRLS Illustrated Artist

“The GIRLS Illustrated project began after I’d watched the first two seasons of GIRLS and fell in love with Lena Dunham’s writing. I instantly wanted to respond to the show in my own way; plucking out particular moments, characters and quotes through my illustration and typographic style.
