Not Me on Society and Revolution
Change and Revolution is something that is considered a disturbance, a hindrance to daily life with traffic and noise, and police restrictions - until it affects the people themselves and then they themselves are motivated to support the protest, if not join the protest.
This reminder that people who protest are brave heroes - yes but also ordinary humans with jobs they go to pay bills because they too need the money to survive. That just because you are fighting the system you don't stop being a person who lives and depends on that system for survival.
How any new idea that brings change seems unrealistic, like utopia- and that is because it is at that time - and that is why people are fighting for it, to make the change real and possible.
How only ideas as a tool for change can seem idealistic and maybe they are - however power required (money, influence) cannot outweight the idea or the power of idea itself. And if it outweighs it - the idea wasn't the one capable of transforming the society or the one that society required.
THIS. "Why fight them? If not them, it will be someone else" and that's true. And that someone else comes because the system in society gives them the opportunity and strength to come. And that's the society telling us - that this is the thing that is wrong with the system now and this is what needs to be changed now.
Power of people. Of protests - far often outweight the power of money and connection. And people at the top of the hierarchy know this and hence the attempts to silence them.
The cycle Todd and Black talked about? I don't think it's just about their friendship. It's about society. At no point - we will have a perfect society without problems, without struggles and inequality and oppression - it's just that how all this will occur, what faces they will take changes - and that's why a society is always in cycle of being destroyed and being reborn, that of change and transformation and revolutions are the ones that drive this transformation.
Which is why we as people, need to keep fighting.
