The amount of time he had spent planning this felt like an entire lifetime. It also happened to be how long it practically took them to end up together. He still remembered that rainy day in Italy when they miraculously ran into each other in the café and she had been the last person he expected to see that day. Saying it was just a coincidence would be a huge understatement though; in that moment he knew that they weren’t just two people who were only going to be in each other’s lives long enough to write a single chapter in their life. Jyllian Elizabeth Matthews was the woman Andrew was meant to spend the rest of his life with and now he was going to take the next step in making sure that happened.
Andrew hadn’t decided exactly what day he would be asking her to spend the rest of her life with him, but something just felt right about tonight. It had been weeks since he’d found the perfect right, talked to the important men in her life: Reid and Emmett, and he had already visited her mom to let her know what he wanted to do. Of all people, despite the importance of the Matthews men, Andrew knew that Jyll’s mom was the person whose permission and blessing was most important. Getting permission from her two best friends had been pretty simple and he ignored their death threats because of all people they knew he would never do anything to purposely hurt Jyll. Since the day he let them know he was planning on proposing, there were messages that blew up his phone every day from Teagan and Marissa asking when he was gonna pop the question. They were borderline annoying but he knew it was out of excitement. If anyone rivaled their level of obnoxious on the subject though, it was definitely Braedon. The second his cousin found out about it, it seemed as if the guy was ready to marry them right then and there if possible. It took a lot for Drew not to kill the guy every time he hummed wedding bell sounds whenever Jyll was around.
All of their friends had just left the place; it was Sunday and for the past few months the rooftop of their apartment had become the location where they had dinner, caught up with each other on how their weeks had been, etc. The sun had just set completely, making the rooftop dark. Standing by the doorway he turned the lights around them that decorated the place. For a moment he watched her wave down at who he assumed was Reid; he always scolded anyone who got close to the edge. “You’re going to give him a heart attack one of these days,” Andrew told her with a laugh when she turned around to look at him. “Pretty much anything could give him a heart attack though.” Walking over to a beach by their small garden, he motioned towards it for her to go join him, and took both her hands in his as soon as she took the seat beside him.
“Have I told you how incredible I think you are?” he asked but he continued, cutting her off before she could say anything. “There’s something that’s been on my mind for a while now, and before you say anything I just need you to let me get it all out.” He still hadn’t even begun but he could feel the emotions build up rapidly inside him, but that only pushed him to do it even more. That’s how he knew now was the moment and he didn’t want to waste any more time. “You...” he paused unable to keep a smile from spreading across his lips, “you are the only person in this entire world that has made me lose that ability to breath. This happens constantly, whenever I look at you and see you smiling... it just fucking kills me and I say that in a really good way. I love waking up next to you, I love feeling complete whenever you’re around. I don’t ever want either of those things to stop happening. I want you to be the person I spend the rest of my life with because I am completely sure that there is no one out there better for me than you. I am completely sure that there is no one out there that would make me want to become a better version of myself either. I want to be the person you go to all the time whenever you need comfort, I want to be the person that tells you they love you in the middle of the day for no reason. I want to be the person that makes you wish the day was longer just so we could make more memories to look back on together when we’re old and the kids bust through the door with our grandchildren.” Standing up from the bench he reached into his pocket where he’d been carrying a small box with him the entire day and got down on one knee in front of her.
“Jyllian Matthews, will you spend the rest of your life with me?”
