Neil always spoke for Todd, and when Todd needed him most he wasn’t there, so he had to learn to speak for Neil when Neil needed him more than anything, knowing that no matter what he said wouldn’t do anything, and it wouldn’t bring him back, but at least he did it and atleast he tried. I keep thinking about when Charlie scares the shit out of Meeks on their way to the cave for the first dps meeting 😭😭 bro is probably so annoying to watch horror movies with he'd try to startle people the whole time. He's just randomly poking them during the most stressful scenes. charlie usually leaves Todd alone because that boy is liable to start crying and/or have a literal heart attack if he gets too startled. He's already so on edge.
During group movie nights Pitts is the first to fall asleep. After that it's Todd.
Whenever Todd has to give a presentation in front of the class he's visibly shaking. he's probably even snuck off to the bathroom afterwards to vomit from sheer anxiety.
Neil and Meeks are the most likely to pull all nighters. Meeks gets into studying or reading and doesn't even realize it's 5 am by the time he takes a break. Neil is slowly losing his mind with existential thoughts but then goes to school the next day like nothing happened the night before. Charlie also has to stay up late a lot because he's always procrastinating on getting his assignments done and waits until the last minute to write entire essays.
Meeks has always been the "smart" one of the group and be pressured by his parents and school into being more academic focused but he's actually a lot more creative and into the arts than a lot of people think, he sadly just doesn't have the time for many creative pursuits because of studying. Don't get me wrong I think he'd like studying but moreso specific things that aren't always related to school like various trivia. RIP Stephen Meeks you would've loved wikipedia. He's the type to get randomly fixated on a subject and learn everything there is to know about it in just a few weeks and then move onto the next thing. Bro would be AMAZING at trivia club/quizzbowl if his school had one.
Meeks loves music of all kinds and likes to learn a lot about the lives of the members of the bands and solo artists that he listens to or about how their songs were made and music theory. I have this hc because he and pitts build a radio together and he also turns his poem into a song.
Meeks also reads super quickly I mean these huge classic novels finished in only a week. They tested his reading comprehension level back in 4th grade and he was already at college level.
When the poets run out of things to talk about at meetings they ask Meeks for random fun facts. Charlie enjoys the ones about music especially.
Meeks constantly gets comments on how much he looks like his mother and it's starting to drive him crazy. It doesn't help that he's a huge mama's boy 😭 and the group playfully teases him about it
In a modern au Pitts would be a gamer. He and Meeks have a shared Minecraft world that they've been playing on since their freshman year.

Pitts' height makes him really clumsy. We see this when he hits his head on the ceiling of the cave. He's also the type to do goofy shit like trip over his own shoelaces.

Cameron has always had a very strong sense of justice and of what's right and wrong, which doesn't always align with the opinions of his friends. He's stubborn and he always sticks with his beliefs. He doesn't mean to hurt others, in fact he means to help them, even though that's not always the outcome. This also means that he was a huge tattle and teacher's pet back in elementary and middle school 😭 he's become a bit more of a troublemaker now but is still stubborn about certain things.
Knox had braces back in middle school and freshman year and hatesss when people bring that up.
As a kid, Charlie was constantly getting injured like skinning his knees or even breaking his arm because he'd run around and climb on things that he wasn't supposed to. He still does reckless things and if he ever broke a bone again he'd have all his friends sign his cast.
Sometimes I kind of forget homophobia is a thing. It's so dystopian to me, I can't comprehend it. Why would genuine love between two people that don't harm you ever be bad? Why would genuine yearning and want for love with a same-sex individual ever be bad? It's awful. It's unfair. It's illogical. It's hate to hate but we should love to love. I love love. I love my heterosexuals and my homosexuals and I love my cishets and my lgbtq+ and my neurotypicals and my neurodivergents and I think the world needs more love and empathy and kindness in it. This is what Frank said in an interview about homophobia and it was very relevant because I just dont get it. How can someone look at the purity of two souls intertwined in the most beautiful and gentle way and be filled with such strong hate? How can someone look upon the marriage of a queer couple, see the tears of joy and the smiles and decide that they don’t want anyone to have that kind of joy? What right have they to decide? How can someone see a person after going on hormones or getting surgery and finally feeling at home in their body and decide that, no, actually, they should suffer and hate themselves instead. How can people disregard love and comfort in regard of their bigotry and hatred. I don’t think I’ll ever understand how people can choose to hate. After Neil had that big, final argument with his father, and after his mother leaves the room and he’s alone you see him staring off into the distance in what is assumed to be his fathers office. He’s staring directly at the desk drawer where the gun is kept. If you look closely, his face changes. There’s a glimpse of hope. Of relief. A way out. He’s almost smiling as he stares at the place in which he soon would take his own life, his eyes resting on the locked drawer that holds the last decision that he’ll ever make.
Smth that canonically happened in dps that we werent shown in the movie is when neil started going to the rehearsals and immediately became best friends with ginny cause theyre literally twins and when he was talking to Todd he was constantly "ginny this and ginny that and ginny said and ginny did"
And Todd's like "ginny😑🙄😠🤬" in his head cause he thinks neils in live with her or smth, but to ginny neils just "toddtoddtoddtoddtodd" 98% of the time (she started planning neil and Todd's wedding)
