i revisit your post “why i love gw and hate ft” every time i get stressed about ft’s existence (which i have been, extremely, ever since the 30th anniversary promo dropped lol). i just wanted to say thank you for writing that analysis. it brings me a lot of peace personally, knowing i can see it as an AU and not canon to the animated show continuity. it just stresses me out so bad .. 😭 so yeah, i’m gonna keep coping that it’s an AU and not their canon in-show endings until i die or they animate it (in which case i will also die LOL), and you know what, even then i’ll keep looking for loopholes. because i love gw, and i want better for the characters i love 🥺 anyway, thank you for writing that post. i think about it all the time 💗
That's very kind of you, anon. Thank you. You flatter me and I don't deserve it.
I do want to rewrite that post though because I basically copy-pasted it from the AnimeSuki forum, where I originally wrote it and out of context it sounds a bit off to me.
Good thing I finally have some time off, so I'll be going through my posts and tweaking the ones that need it.
As for Frozen Teardrop, even after the anniversary video I maintain that it's a separate universe. The very fact that Odin Lowe got his looks changed to fit with Sumizawa's manic connect-the dots frenzy is proof enough. Quatre, in series canon, has 29 sisters, not 30 because one was forgotten in the back of the fridge. Trowa gets over his emo phase by EW's ending. Meilan didn't have a random, pointless twin Duo hung out with for over a year before she died and he buried her on the moon, with Wufei being none the wiser. And there were not two Heeros running around in the series.
Sumizawa penned Glory of Losers to retcon the series. Fine. Let him have his bizarro universe, where half the cast is a clone of some sort and logic does not exist. (Seriously, Une in FT says that there are many clones in the Earth Sphere in the epilogue. Sumizawa, WHERE??? Who is cloning them?? And why??)
The series was created by a whole team of writers, directors, consultants and the like. Sumizawa is but one person. Yes, he is the head writer, and he wrote Episode Zero which I do consider canon (except Relena's chapter, which is just dumb and I'll never not point that out), but the difference is that Episode Zero was approved by the other creators, too. And it shows.
Frozen Teardrop is a trainwreck.
Am I bothered that Sunrise animated a couple of minutes of it?
Even if they turn out to drop a whole OVA, I'm not gonna be bothered. I'll just make fun of it. Gundam Seed got a movie 20 years after Destiny finished airing and it was a steaming pile of horse dung, which became a hit in the box office. A major financial success, that left me with my brain dripping out of my nose with how dumb it was.
Maybe Sunrise is gunning for the same thing here. Gundam Wing has had zero new material (since the series wrapped itself up twice, duh), so Sumizawa's fanfic is the only new thing they could use to draw old fans back in who're willing to give Sunrise and Bandai their money for nostalgia reasons. Obviously, they aren't going to ever animate Episode Zero because corporations want "new" and "fresh" ideas, as old stuff won't sell in their opinion. Otherwise, we would have already gotten it.
