(glassesandcape is back!

all righty, here’s the deal. lately, I’ve been having tons of anxiety when I would go on Clark’s blog, so I decided to take a break for a bit. I’m back – but there’s gonna be a bit of revamping.

I’m going to start unfollowing a buncha people. I’m so sorry, but having a dash this full tends to freak me out. It’s nothing personal, promise! If you’re still interested in rping, remember you can always shoot me an im!

I’m also going to post a list of threads I’m dropping and threads I’m keeping. I currently have 30+ drafts, and I can’t deal with that. Again, nothing personal! If I dropped something you’d really really love to keep, just let me know and we’ll figure it out! EDIT: the list is here.

after I do all that, I’m going to be adding a new au to this blog – a mashup of space nerdiness that I’ve had a lot of fun thinking about. :)

the chosen one is most commonly used to symbolize the light side, and the heart of the story. unlike the warrior, they barely ever choose to fight on the front lines of a battle. although they will stand up for what they believe in, they do it in a way that is diplomatic, so that they don't create more conflict than there already is. they do not feel the need to be credited in their achievements and victories, and would rather have their confidantes and comrades have the eternal glory and spotlight. they are content with the happiness of those they care about, and place friendship over all else. the chosen one is always picked for the role, hence the name. their fate was placed upon them from birth, and due to their hero complex, and need to help the meek, they follow instructions, and do what needs to be done.

And with that, Clark snorted. Not a laugh, not a chuckle. A snort.

“Not contesting that. Not sure I would fit into your skirt, though.”

“You totally wouldn’t fit in my skirt, you — have more going on behind you than I do.”

“Okay, maybe it is true, but it’s still -- proportional to you, at least --“

Clark was already grabbing his jacket from where it was hanging on a well-worn metal hook. “I think she’d still be able to keep herself afloat considering – everything,” Clark said, referencing his and Kara’s powers in the vague way he had grown accustomed to, for safety’s sake. “But Kara’s really smart, I don’t think she would if she didn’t know how to swim.”

He glanced around to see if there were any adults - either his parents or hers – around. “We can fly to the beach, and start looking – it’d get us there faster, if that’s okay.”

In the back of her mind, the possibility that she was overreacting was there but right now she couldn’t lose Kara     her mother had just lost her father and she knew they couldn’t handle more instability. “I know she is, but what if she goes the wrong way?” The way she had treated Kara resonates in her mind and she knows that if she had done something differently, her adoptive sister would be safe.

“As long as my mother doesn’t see, but she might understand if she knows.” That wasn’t something she wanted to do, so hopefully they wouldn’t get caught. “I don’t know where she’d go.” The Kryptonian still barely had any friends so the options were limited.

The flight to the beach was quick -- maybe a bit too quick, but Clark was just as worried as Alex was, though he was trying really hard not to show it. They landed a little harder than Clark meant them to, feet hitting the sand solidly. 

“I don’t.... see her,” Clark said, scanning up and down the beach, where a bunch of kids ran past them in brightly-colored swimsuits. “Maybe she’s on the far side of the beach?” He hoped so. If they didn’t find Kara soon, and quick... he didn’t want to think about what would happen. Already his hearing was becoming less restrained than he wanted it to, the sound of the tide loud in his ears.

Clark hid a smile as Barnes was obviously trying to keep his cool. “Yes, that’s what I was thinking. It’s a little hard to just walk around Metropolis like this, is all.”

“It’s my birth name,” Clark said when Barnes commented on it, an odd, hidden tone to his voice, though his small smile remained. So often, the name he’d been born with sounded like an insult -- echoing with the sound of Zod outing him to the world, screaming it across city skies, telling him to choose, Kal-El, you’ve destroyed Krypton. You’ve betrayed your people. Softer was the memory of his birth father saying it -- Kal. Yes, that is your name. That is who you are. “And, well, that is the point of a civilian identity, so -- I guess it’s working.”

Clark’s smile burst into a laugh, and he leaned back, blue eyes carefree, as they hadn’t been in a long, long time. “I guess not -- it’s been a while since I’ve been, myself. Guess we’ll see how much has changed.”

He looked back over at Lois, a strand of her red hair escaping from her ponytail. “As long as you’re not expecting the State Fair -- it’s not gonna be as big, you know.” Maybe they’d have the pop-up ferris wheel this year. He rememered, once, when he was in high school, getting stuck at the top with Lana Lang, and the ferris wheel didn’t come back next year.

He smiled softly at the memory, but as the breeze ruffled his face and he heard Lois’ heartbeat next to him, his mother’s steps as she moved around inside, the far-off sound of the corn bending in the breeze like a distant tide, the weight seemed to drop out of his lungs.

Clark got up from the porch, offering a hand to Lois. “Here, c’mon. Ma redid the chicken coop last spring, and it’s her pride and joy,” he said, with a teasing shade to his voice.

So I made Lois on a whim back after I’d first seen Dawn of Justice. I didn’t ever think that I’d make it this far?? But here I am? 350+ followers later?? Honestly, this fandom is the sweetest and most accepting that I’ve ever been in. & though this year was definitely a rough one by many standards, this blog was one of the things that kept me going despite everything.

I just love Lois so much. & I’m so glad that I did make this blog, and that I did have the chance to get to know more people, and to grow as a writer. Seeing how far this blog has come, as well as all of the people that I’ve gotten to know over here— it makes me so happy.
