FAQ for Authors
What is the minimum word count? Is there a maximum word count?
The minimum word count required for this festival is 50,000 words. There is no maximum word count.
Can I use a story I’m already writing?
The goal of a big bang is to create a new work of long fiction within a specific time frame. Due to the length of the stories being produced during this big bang, you may use a story you are already writing, as long as:
The work in question is no longer than 5000 words.
No part of the work has been posted elsewhere (including AO3, FF.net, Tumblr, LJ, or any other platform).
Can I write more than one story?
Due to the length of the works in this challenge, each author will be allowed only one entry.
Where can I sign up as an author?
Author Sign-Ups will take place via Tumblr, beginning on December 1, 2014. At that time, instructions on signing up will be posted. Sign ups end on December 31, 2014.
Is co-writing permissible?
You may sign up to write a story with one co-writer. This will count as your single entry in the bang. You will not be able to sign up to write an additional story as a solo writer or with another co-writer. Co-written works may have no more than two authors.
Are crossovers with another fandom permissible?
Crossovers are permitted, as long as the central narrative focuses on one or more canonical Glee characters.
Will my story definitely have art?
Yes. We guarantee that every story will have at least one piece of art. Most stories will have multiple artists, completing at least one work a piece for the story. The artwork you receive may include graphics, traditional or digital drawings, fanvideos, fanmixes, or some combination thereof.
Can I sign up to work with a specific artist?
Yes, but the artist must also be willing to complete at least one piece for a second author/story. Indicate your artist’s name on your sign-up form, and be sure they include yours on their sign-up form
When are the check-ins, and how many words are required for each one?
The full Out With A Bang schedule, including check-in dates, can be found here. Check-ins are an opportunity to touch base with your artist, the other authors, and the mods, but no specific word count is required. In order to submit your story for an artist claim, however, you must have a word count of at least 10,000 words by the art claims check in, April 1, 2015.
What if I don’t finish my story?
You may drop from Out With A Bang at any time prior to receiving an artist claim without penalty. If you drop after receiving your artist claim without prior discussion with the mods, you will not be allowed to participate in future writing challenges run by GleekMods.
Is a beta required for my story?
Your story must be beta-read at least once before submission.
What pairings are allowed for this big bang?
Out With A Bang allows any romantic/sexual pairings, including OT3/OT4+/poly pairings, as long as those pairings include at least one canonical Glee character. Pairings may involve characters of any gender or sexual orientation, including asexual. Stories including no romantic/sexual pairings (genfic), or where romantic pairings are not a primary focus, are also allowed in Out With A Bang.
Can I submit my story early?
You may check-in with your completed story at any time, as long as it has been beta read and you have received all your artwork. This does not change the posting date/time for your story, however. Please do not post your story to AO3 or LJ before your assigned posting date/time.
