For a bit of context this was mostly done in the small hours of the morning on an exam week so that was. the vibe for me.

There's a second part I'm going to put under the cut both for spoiler purposes and because it contains. the content of the fanfic which is kinda heavy.

Also idk why but for me this is specifically a Tesco. Which doesn't entirely make sense bc the au is based on Germany and they don't have Tescos in Germany but maybe they have Tesco in Germany-inspired Oz so shhhhh. There's just an inherent liminal space/ surreal vibe to a Tesco. If this were to happen in any supermarket it would be a Tesco. Ok end of rambly British tangent about Tescos.

So I've been thinking about making historically inspired bookverse designs for Glinda for a hot minute, but just haven't gotten around to it. Hopefully I'll have the time/ energy to do more in the future but for now here's Shiz Glinda.

So I don't know exactly how time works in Oz to be honest, I just know that it's really fucky. In the interest of simplicity, I worked under the assumption that 1 Oz year = 1 Earth year (even though I know that's not right) and assumed that Dorothy's arrival in Oz happens around 1900, since that's when the Wizard of Oz was first published. We're explicitly told that Elphaba is 38 at this point, making Glinda around the same age. This would mean that Glinda starts Shiz around 1878/79, at the age of 17. Bearing this in mind, I looked for fashion plates from the late 1870s/early 1880s to use as inspiration for this design. I also took inspiration from the Shiz costumes she wears on stage, as is probably evident from the colour palette/ asymmetry. To be honest, I didn't actually look back at the book descriptions here. From what I remember she's mostly described as wearing dark colours like navy and maroon in this section of the book and that just feels wrong to me, so I chose to ignore it. I did give her the scary blue eyes™ though, because as far as I'm concerned that is an essential part of bookverse Glinda. Also I'm not sure it's entirely clear from the way it's drawn, but her hair here is intended to be in an updo rather than just being really short. If she took it down I'd say it's a little longer than shoulder-length, and naturally curly. One of the fashion plates I looked at had the subject holding an umbrella/parasol, and I also already had a pose reference that included an umbrella so I decided to give her one. The shape of the parasol is meant as a nod to the bubble from the musical, for no other reason than that I thought it would be neat.
