Lace Harding

Lace Harding was born in the Ferelden Hinterlands,  just outside the town of Redcliffe, to a seamstress mother and trader father. Her mother named her “Lace” with the hope that her daughter would be as pretty and delicate as a slip of the fine fabric. When Harding was a child, her father often bragged he could trace his bloodline back to a Merchant Caste family from Orzammar, though no official reference to a merchant house carrying the name can be found.

As a young woman, Harding eschewed her mother’s chosen profession and refused to stay indoors peering at needle-work when she could be out and about. She volunteered to help her neighbour on her sheep farm, performing the chores the elder woman could no longer manage. While on shepherding duty, Harding spent days exploring the hills and fields of the Hinterlands. Her familiarity with the terrain would prove useful to the Inquisition when it was first establishing itself in Ferelden. Harding saw the first Inquisition scouts passing by, and she gave them directions to and information on sheltered locations where she believed rebel mages and templars could have made camp. When Harding’s information proved correct, the agent called Charter invited her to join the nascent organisation. Concerned about the state of Ferelden and the chaos started by the opening of the Breach, Harding signed on.
