this is in no particular order ok (because I can't pick just one moment nor even rank them) but here it is:

I'm starting with this kind of dumb moment. this VIOS interview is just awful and awkward but this part right here always gets me!!!!!! the interviewer asks what makes them want to go to a talent show and louis being his incredible self whispers jokingly "the VIOS" and both harry and louis burst out laughing, it's so adorableeeee, I even looked for the video and exact minute so you can watch for yourself, and also have this gif:

there's also this small moment that I simply adore because it just screams intimacy - harry goes to grab the phone case in between louis' legs and louis doesn't even flinch!!!!!! seriously!!!!

Hi there!

I’ll try keep it quick, but basically I came to you first because this (to me) is pretty breakthrough stuff. If anything it confirms a lot of our beliefs and I thought you could handle it/spread it accordingly.

So basically, I live in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and I got my nose pierced tonight at Bondi Ink (notorious in this fandom for the venue of Louis’ long awaited dagger tattoo) and as I was sitting in the chair I struck up conversation with the guy doing the piercing. I asked if he was a tattoo artist and he said no, but “this guy is” and pointed to someone next to him. So I started talking to that guy about drunk tattoo requests, etc, small talk.

Then I asked “Did you do the tattoo’s for the boys from One Direction?” and he was like, “yeah, I did one of them. Lewis i think?” And my heart started beating cause it couldn’t have been a better opportunity to ask questions.

On the topic of “drunk tattoo requests” I asked about Louis’ tattoo (playing dumb of course, otherwise I would seem like a creep) so I joked around and said sarcastically “was it a sentimental one” and he said “Actually I was really surprised, he wasn’t even drunk, he had it planned out and it seemed extremely important - weird for a late night tattoo around here”

at this stage i was struggling to contain myself because jesus christ ?? ? ?

Then i decided to try and go further, and I asked “do you remember what the tattoo was?” and he said “yeah it was a dagger” and I said “why would he get a dagger that’s bizarre”. To which he replied, “when I saw the design, I said that I’d known of a different but similar design with a rose incorporated into the dagger - being a tattoo artist for a living every now and then we have to try and up the scale of the tattoo - but then he just said that ‘the rose had already been taken care of’, so maybe he already had a tattoo of a rose somewhere else”

I have to note that afterward I said “wow it’s strange that you can reveal all this stuff to me, what with his status and client confidentiality and all that” and he just said “nah, it’s a tattoo after all, it’s there forever and it’s not exactly in a hidden place, everyone’s gonna see it”

So make of all this what you will, but I thought it was pretty significant. I was with a friend at the time who has absolutely no idea about Larry, but me being a pretty avid Larrie in this fandom I thought it was pretty good news for us… I must stress that this is real! I wouldn’t want to make up this even if I really wanted to, false hope tears us apart nowadays.

Okay, but this is really important: Bruce Springsteen occupied this really weird place in music history. His songs were all from this pessimistic, nihilistic view of an America that had let him down:

Just like the anti-Vietnam War protest songs that we associate with the 1960s, or the early nihilism that spawned punk music in the 1970s. But he didn’t *sound* like a punk anarchist; he sounded like a country rock singer. When he released Born in the U.S.A. people completely misinterpreted (or possibly ignored) the lyrics in favor of the tone of the music.

Politicians used his music to promote their ‘Murica Yes! brand, and he had to literally explain that that was not what he was about. He’s over here asking when we’re going to have jobs and heathcare, not stanning the politicians who weren’t helping the people.

It was also kind of a big deal that he had an integrated band, because even as late as the 1980s music was still kind of segregated and MTV was straight up racist. They refused to play and promote black artists and then claimed that were no black artists in the first place. Michael Jackson’s record company had to threaten a boycott of their white artists to get MTV to play his Thriller video.

Plus, the first black/white interracial kiss on TV was in 1968 (OG Star Trek). Also it took us until the 70s to get sympathetic gay characters on screen, and the 90s to get gay characters to kiss onscreen. And all of those firsts were met with outrage.

So keep that in mind when you see Bruce Springsteen not just playing with an interracial band, but engaging in an interracial, gay kiss on stage repeatedly.

It gets me a little that Bruce has had a divorce, that he’s been married twice, but he loved Clarence for the rest of Clarence’s life and will presumably love him the rest of his own

I’m having some emotions about it!

Not just! I love you pure and deep and true but! I am going to love you like that in front of the whole damn world!

We have fewer narratives about taking risks and making statements for platonic love rather than romantic and supposedly it would be easier to downplay this onstage than romance and! They refused! They fucking refused! In front of hundreds of thousands of people, over the course of years! In the spotlight, in word and deed, I love you!

I was listening to Face the Music today, and I was thinking about how interesting Louis’ choice of words in the chorus is. It seems like the more intuitive way of interpreting it is as “I don’t want to face the music, I just want to dance with you,” which implies a choice — I don’t want to face the consequences/bad things (the “music”), I would prefer to keep doing this thing that feels good (the dance). But what Louis wrote is “I don’t want to face the music, but I still want to dance with you,” and I think this means something different entirely. In this case, it acknowledges that the “music,” and everything the music represents, is part and parcel with the dance. It’s something the he must endure if he wants to keep dancing. And this makes sense given that music is what is necessary in order to dance. In the context of Louis’ life and his relationship with Harry, this makes me think about how so many of the challenges and realities Harry and Louis have had to face have been what was necessary to allow them the relationship they have. If they wanted to get to dance — their ability to experience their relationship with each other — they had to face the music — the stunts, BBG, and everything else — too. It was never something they could choose between.
