I think that words can save you. You know - if you hear the right ones, or if you know the right ones to use.
My second year of wishing a very Happy "Superb Owl" Sunday to all those who celebrate 🦉

MY ROMAN EMPIRE ALWAYS AND FOREVER
It's OK buddy! You're doing a great job!

It’s the last day of somebody’s childhood. And every day I’ll try to do one thing I like, in memory of being happy. (x)
Joe Mazzello as EUGENE SLEDGE Sufjan Stevens, "FOURTH OF JULY"
love doing rewatches of shows that're one step shy of being historical biopics because it makes me feel like I'm in a timeloop.
yes, we're back at the beginning. say good bye to your friend, your father, your family. you're not going to see any of them again as you are. this war is going to strip you of your identity. this has happened before, in ww1, and it has happened before because this is a retelling, and it has happened before because I have seen it all unfold nearly 10 times on my laptop screen.
there is no changing the outcome. you were and are doomed from the beginning.
let's go again.
you wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me.
tired of your complaints
and they have no scissors to offer him either smh. They hate to see a girlboss winning.
Actually who gave Noah Kahan the right to sum up my whole personality by saying in love with being noticed; afraid of being seen.
the thing about masters of the air… it’s so well done and you feel the highs and lows and you see the emotions on their faces and it’s a masterpiece
what hits harder is remembering that this a true story and true men and women and they really went through this together and that’s what makes my chest hurt cause its not just a good show and good story, it’s someone’s real story and yeah I have feelings
people being mad about characters being "killed off" in an hbo (apple) war tv show are genuinely baffling to me like you are aware that this is based on very real battles and very real people right like they weren't "killed off" so much as they were killed in action because they were real people who were killed in a real war and it would be extremely uncomfortable and weird to rewrite history and desensitise and diminish the horror and loss of life in said war
all quiet in a western font

Newspaper clippings with Welsh's & Sledge's wedding announcements
Came across a couple more of the boys' wedding announcements in newspaper archives!
One is for Harry Welsh's 1945 wedding to *the* Kitty Grogan. Remember in BoB how Harry talks about holding onto his reserve parachute for Kitty to ultimately make into a wedding dress? My favorite detail: "The bride...wore a white bridal gown fashioned from a parachute used by the bridegroom overseas." How full-circle.
Then I also found an article reporting Eugene Sledge's 1952 marriage to Jeanne Arceneaux, also of Mobile. Looks like his dad served as his best man (their scenes together in the pacific were so heartbreakingly beautiful. How lovely to think that his dad was there with him at the aisle, just as he was there to comfort and support him upon his return from the front; to mark this event that showed that Eugene had found someone, some reason to be excited for the future after the pain of coming home and grappling with what he had witnessed and experienced). My poor little heart...
Stumbled across the newspaper announcement of Leckie and Vera's wedding from The Herald-News (November 27, 1946):
