Pump installation

Pump installation location should be near to the source and purposely to shorten the length of the suction period and prevent the suction loss. Pump installed base should be leveled, firm and secured in order to avoid vibration during operation.

When the pump discharge and pressure equipment connected, the throttle valve and pump must install a check valve to prevent the liquid reflux, otherwise, the return fluid can lead to damage

Cuttings box is also called cuttings collection box that is widely used on drilling site as a temporary vessel to collect and store the drilling waste cuttings. Due to the purpose of the cuttings box, it is designed compact and easy for transportation. Once the cuttings box is full, it could be replaced by an empty one.

The cuttings box is always used on the drilling site where the mud pit is not available. In the solids control system, the cuttings boxes are always located under the solids discharge chute of the shale shaker to collect the cuttings out of the primary shaker. Firstly, remove the shaker box locking device of shale shaker GNZS703E-HB and mud cleaner GNZJ703E-D8N (Please refer shaker user manual and mud cleaner user manual for detailed operation). Then have a trial operation to shale shaker and mud cleaner. All valves for pipelines are on off state after dispatch from the manufacturer’s factory. Before start up the system, operator should open values first and ensure all of them unblocked.

Then, start up shale shaker GNZS703E-HB and mud cleaner GNZJ703E-D8N. After the shaker and mud cleaner is running stably, start up submersible slurry pump to feed for the shale shaker. It is the first stage separation. When the mud reaches to three quarters of the 1# compartment underneath shale shaker (about 1 minute), start up the desilter feeding pump (1# sand pump GNSB6x5A-12J). Mud will be transferred to the mud cleaner 4’’ desilter cyclone from the 1﹟compartment, at a pressure of 0.25～0.40MPa. It is the second stage separation. The clean mud from 4’’ desilter cone flow to the #2 compartment. When the mud height reaches to the overflow pipeline, it will overflow to #3 compartment. The user-owned mud pump is connected to the suction line of the 500GPM mud system tank and transfer qualified mud to wellhead. The clean mud can also directly flow to outside storage tank through the desilter output pipe. When needed, users can start up the mixing pump (2# sand pump GNSB6x5A-12J) and feed to the mixing hopper GNSLS35A. The weighted mud from mixing hopper flows to 3# compartment. The suction port and discharge port of mixing pump are equipped with T-pipe, it can also mixing/discharge mud from/to outside tanks.   Pay attention to the performance of the desilter cyclone. Ensure it works properly. If not, adjust the cyclone adjustment cap for a better performance. Pay attention to the figures on the pressure gauge of desilter cyclone, ensure it is under the scope of the working pressure. The working pressure of 4’’ desilter cyclone is 0.25～0.40MPa.

Points consider the mud agitator for use

Mud agitator is a motorized mixer that is installed on the storage tank to keep fluid consist mixed with additive and avoid separation by gravity.  According to the experience of continues use on the field, the selection of mud mixer should consider to a few points:

1.    Rotation speed: Operators it does not want the cuttings in the mixing process splintered more into smaller debris, so the stirrer speeds cannot be high, the energizer should choose between 50~60rpm. For more than 60rpm of mud mixer, recommended the user to take a cautious on the result of the high rotation speed.

2.    Sealing: According to the feedback of use from the operator.   As mixing conditions are not ideal, the drilling fluid mud agitator shaft is not suitable for the use of end face seal, the general packing seal is also hard to use. At present, the more suitable is the use of multiple sets of V type packing. It has self sealing performance and self compensation ability, and long-term maintenance adjustments abilities will not cause lubricating oil leakage problems.

3.    The impeller: There is a variety of mud mixer impeller, but it must take consideration that  a small diameter of the blade with high speed of mixer motor have the small amount of circulation, shear force, and therefore does not apply to the use of drilling fluid solid suspension. Therefore, the diameter of the impeller should be consider larger. Second, pay attention to the turbine type impeller has been widely used in the drilling fluid mixer, which is the best open type turbine, because there is no central disc, not to hinder the mixing of the upper and lower liquid phase of the impeller.
