as much as i get the sentiment behind "make more bad art" there's gotta be a better way of communicating "you don't have to be technically proficient or hold yourself to a specific standard of practice" that doesn't sound as backhanded lol
"Make bad art" does not just mean "make it before your technical skill is perfected or your practice is free and loose". That's the method, not the meaning.
What it's truly communicating is that art is subjective. That, because there is no universal metric for how to define the quality of a piece, there is actually no way for art to be Good or Bad in the first place.
No matter how "good" you get, there will always be someone who thinks it sucks. And given art as a skill is something you can never perfect, sometimes that person is you! It can happen 5, 10, or 40 years in where you'll be making something and still not be satisfied.
"Make bad art" is a reminder that if you wait to make anything until you think you're "good enough", then you'll never make anything at all. Because """good""" art simply doesn't exist.
