baby time.

gnoll cubs are born with completely brown-black fur, and start life with a temporary infant name. When their tawny yellow fur and spots start to come in, they are given the name they'll carry into adulthood in a special ceremony.

baby clothes aren't really a thing, but parents still decorate their children with strips of cloth or strings of beads. Since small children are raised communally, the decorations also help tell a bunch of rambunctious, identically dark-furred toddlers apart from each other at a glance.
