PREMISE: Lupin is a manipulating liar who played us all like puppets and tried to make us jump at each others' throats. They are narcissistic, egocentric and guilty of talking badly about their own friends and their own partner behind our back. They bad-mouthed half the Genshin RPC for no other reason than to pump their ego. They have no proof for any of their awful claims and they twist the truth around to fit their narrative and gain social points.

We are a group who decided to step forward to weed the RPC from their roots. There is only few of us but Lupin mistreated more people.

he'd asked himself the same question during his travels, and the answer changed quite often. that he was loyal, that he could avenge his father, if he could do this, if he could do that...but being asked the question made diluc sigh and glance over to his brother.

"with what? leaving mondstadt? or helping with the stormterror incident, despite not being involved with the knights? or my nightly activities? you have to be more specific, sir kaeya. i'm not a mind reader."

ask a blunt question, get a blunt answer. actually, that did make diluc wonder why kaeya would ask such a simple question in the first place. usually, his antics were more -- subtle. teasing. poking at the bear, so to speak.

kaeya dramatically clutched his chest as he slid into the seat across from resse, giving an "oof" for further effect. perhaps the main way the detective could tell he was joking was because of the way he was trying ( and failing ) to keep from smiling.

"oh, how you wound me! and here i was about to show my concerns for the times you'd been going to liyue..."

she had the taint of the gods on her, after all. lumine was different, looking for the gods in order to search for her brother; resse, though, was still an unknown to the gods, and he didn't want her to be drowned in their affairs.

he had already seen the gods' wrath, even if some details were hazy due to his youth.

"you've been there quite often as of late. is that friend of lumine's giving you the help you need?"

that, at least, had been true. gaia had been very different from his father ; the shape of his mother’s eyes, her silver tongue, the way her anger simmered beneath the surface like something molten under a sheet of ice. shankara would never come to know how well kaeya wielded geniality like a knife, how he’d learned to bury the rotting hatred in him under a bed of flowers. the anger that he felt around his uncle wasn’t directed at him, but a face so similar to his father’s that had gradually blurred, and blurred, until kaeya could no longer remember it. at least until now.

diplomatic missions to snezhnaya were few and far between, especially considering the hostile relationship between mondstadt and the land of snow. when the opportunity had risen, kaeya had been quick to leave, surprised initially that gaining an audience with the first harbinger had been that easy. his reputation for only being found when he wanted to be preceded him. this, too, kaeya shared with him. kaeya’s initial statement had come off sarcastic, unintentionally rude in the presence of his elder - balancing respect and his own simmering frustrations was a difficult one.

“ father was blind. the suffering at the hands of gods - what about the suffering he inflicted upon me ? ” angrily, kaeya detached his vision from his belt, presenting it like one would a a knife. “ look what his actions resulted in. ” now, not only afflicted with the khaenri’ahn curse, but another celestial curse masquerading as a blessing. he had despised his vision from the moment of it’s conception. “ — and where is he to accept the consequences of his actions ? nowhere to be found. no word or warning for over a decade. ”

a pause, air stagnant and still between them, like the silent moment before the crumbling of glaciers. the seconds preceding avalanches. “ where is he, uncle ? do you know ? ”

it would have been difficult for pierro to refuse the visitor, based on the description provided by the secretary. he looks a lot like you, sir, but instead of a mask, he's got an eyepatch on...even your eyes match. and yes, those star-shaped pupils were practically damning, weren't they? gaia was rude even before the highest of the harbingers, yes, but when they had a shared legacy of not only blood, but loss...

pierro couldn't blame him.

indeed, he could clearly see his sister-in-law present in how gaia spoke, anger that was reserved for the unjust, the flowers drawn back to reveal the rage held within. indeed, even as the trinket upon his nephew was revealed, that visible eye widened. a vision, granted in mondstadt, a glaring eye only secondary to gaia's own.

shankara's ambitions had damned gaia, just as they had damned khaenri'ah so long ago. pierro would have cursed him were it not for gaia's presence; not that he thought the boy would mind, but simply out of decorum.

"unfortunately, that is the same question that i've had for the past years as well. up until a decade ago, it was clear where he had been, and then...he disappeared." breaking his gaze away from the vision, he met gaia's eyes with the calm of the impenetrable tundra. the news of shankara's disappearance had alarmed him that day, even as he attempted to trace down his whereabouts.

judging by the timeline, that may have been when gaia was abandoned to mondstadt's people. why? why would he have done such a thing?

a hand eased to lift gaia's proffered hand, even as he returned his gaze to the cryo vision he held. "while i may not yet know where my brother currently is, i still have men searching across teyvat for him. the moment he is found...you will be the next to know, gaia. your suffering is only the latest in the trail that your father has left behind."

being confronted with the question was one thing, but actually answering it was another. as pierro looked over the young man that was his nephew, he could clearly see beyond even his older brother's resemblance. while not quite a mirror of himself, there was still clearly differences from shankara's appearance.

for one thing, shankara's gaze never held the understanding that there was so much more in this world than what was in front of him, not merely the awareness of gods but the understanding of them as threat and opponent. perhaps that was what the boy had seen in him as well, to prompt such a bold question.

"perhaps it does. although even merely looking at you, i would say that you are cut from a different cloth from your father...a much finer one."

that fated night crossed his mind, that final glimpse of his nephew before hari had been separated from the other members of his family, and he'd remembered the urge to simply steal away the boy. it was clearly a grievous mistake to ignore that urge, seeing now how gaia would turn out. had he brought gaia with him, he would have made a fine harbinger, or perhaps even someone to work alongside under the tsaritsa's command.

how unfortunate, then, that he had been so reserved at the wrong time.
