At some point in book 8 Valkyrie gets this really nasty burn by a wraith.
It’s times like this when I’m reminded just how much she changed over the course of the series.
When she get’s burned she cries out of course, but later she stands up and kicks a seperated arm away. That doesn’t seem like much but other people would just fall down, paralyzed and going into shock because of the immense pain. This is a large 3rd degree burn on her belly. She will feel it with every movement of her body and her clothes shifting, but still she gets up, in pain, but not even crying.
What kind of other horrible things did she have to endure that we didn’t even read in the books that made her so tough?
Valkyrie Cain
Still posting one by one…
Favorite Skulduggery Pleasant book: Dark Days.
I always reckoned Val really started growing up and kicking butt in this one, besides, who could forget their first flying lesson!
Even if she could have done without it at the time XD
And here was Ronan, like a heart attack that never stopped

A little story I’m thinking about…. a witch’s apprentice accidentally turns her mentor into a cat and now they’re stuck in a weird domestic life until she can turn him back.
when u like a character for their potential to be interesting and complex more than how they’re actually written
i can imagine that a few times during the truce serpine would be in a corner shop buying milk or whatever and then he would turn around and skulduggery would be staring at him from over the top of the magazine aisle like one day motherfUCKER
Why is Serpine buying milk?
nobody likes black tea ok not even evil war criminals
Val Outfit: has to go to a teacher/parent meeting for Alice for some reason???
how abt…..being called to the principal’s office
Favourite Book : Last Stand of Dead Men
(Anyone else notice how my “contributions” to skulduggeryweeks are always super long text posts where I just ramble about random stuff? This is because I lack talent in just about everything else.)
So, LSODM. I was about to say Deathbringer, but realised that I do prefer book 8 of the series. Why? Weeeell.
To me, this will always be the last book where things are still good; between Skulduggery and Valkyrie, but also generally. It’s the last time they just have fun together, which is what the books used to be about: Two best friends having fun and saving the world. I do very much like how the series ended, and I also enjoyef Resurrection, but if you read those books, you probably know what I’m talking about when I say it’s not the same.
This was also the first book that made me truly get how morally grey people can be, and usually are. Sure, until that point in the books there had been China and a few others, but it hadn’t really struck me just how far this can go. I’m not talking about Ravel, but about Valkyrie herself, who gives in to Darquesse while being 100 % aware what it means.
This is something you rarely, if ever, see in children’s books (or any book, actually). Main characters often make bad decisions, but unlike Val, they don’t usually know what the consequences will be. Val knew, and had known for years, and she still gave in. Yes, she was in pain, yes, she would have died otherwise, but she also knew Darquesse would kill her family and the whole world. And I LOVED it.
Okay, don’t get me wrong. This messed me up a little. I was around 14 at the time, so of course it did. But I also think it’s one of the best decisions Landy could have made for that series. In the moment Valkyrie said yes, it became something more than your average book, and this is why it stands out to me the most.

Skulduggery Week #8: favourite book [1/hopefully 2]
yes, admittedly, I cheated here. I just love this story so much, and this first sentence is one of the most perfect things I have ever read. Anyways, yeay to Dead Men stories.
"for beatrice - my love for you shall live forever. you, however, did not"
[a series of unfortunate events; the reptile room]
Another go at the Fletcher Renn design. Probably only 782432894724 more tries until im satisfied.
