He had no right to hold grudges against her, he also had no right to still be angry at her for leaving. Byunghee hadn't had many friends in his childhood, he hadn't really had much at all but Dara had been the only constant in his life, a bond of friendship that he had never even got close to once she left. After she had left, he'd only remained in the old town for another year, maybe two, every day seemed the same; he had often wondered if she'd found a way out of their deadbeat town to go and do something wonderful, she'd promised that she would do exactly that and deep down inside Byunghee had hoped she'd kept the promise; he had done his best, after all, to keep his.
A fear that he had offended Dara swept across him, he had been caught up in the moment of shock and he had reacted in the way only someone hurt would. He guessed he had been naive in thinking that she would have stayed in contact with him but whatever, her business was her own business and only fate could have told them that they would lose contact; but fate had brought them together again now and still even like many times in past years, he worried about her and where she was, she had never mentioned why she had to leave- Byunghee didn't want to pry. But years without the contact, with so many questions playing on his mind, he was unsure, if their friendship was to go on, would it ever be the same as the years in the countryside when both of them had nothing.
Whilst she spoke, a slight smile spread across his face, Byunghee noticed that with their time apart Dara had felt just as awkward as he had but nevertheless he continued the conversation, a friend like her had been hard to find and now that he had found it again- he wasn't ready to let her go again. "I've been well, thank you," he smiled at her "who would have thought I would have ended up here, right?" It was true though, he had been unsure when he made his promise if it would ever come true and he didn't quite believe it until he stepped foot in Seoul, he wasn't quite sure he believed it now.
"First choir meeting," he shrugged and gestured for Dara to follow him down the corridor "So, how have you been then? It's been… a while." As she walked beside him he looked down at her and smiled, maybe it wasn't too bad after all.
