She hadn’t wanted to bring the baby but it was only a matter of time before Madelyne saw her son. Jean refused to live in fear on the Island that was supposed to be their chance at a better life. “I know I’m looking for peace here, and Scott as well. Most of us have managed to see past our differences. I want to know if you and I can do the same.”

“On the contrary, Jean. If anything, I wish there were more differences between us. I’m not interested in seeing past much of anything.” She paused, eyes drawn to baby Charles but her expression remaining steady. Madelyne had looked like that once, very briefly. Looking for a life with a baby and Scott next to her. “He’s a handsome little fella.”
