I’ve always wanted to draw my OCs in their respective pride colours, and since Airmid is somewhere in the aro-spectrum, and it’s Aro Awareness Week, I decided to start off the series with Airy.
the measure of intelligence is the ability to change.
“Death inspires me like a dog inspires a rabbit”
this is available in my shop, the first twenty-one pilots art on there I think

EAH bio: Barley, an Ozian scaredork by Jade-Encrusted-Bugs
Upon first impression, one may notice that Barley tends to express a set of seemingly defined traits: curiosity, optimism, and a wee bit of naivety. Understandable given ze’s fifteen (months old) and a relatively new student, zir excitability can come off as quite overwhelming to some if zir peers. Zir lack of life experience may be something of a setback, but whether ze’s meeting new people or reading scholarly articles on the MirrorNet for fun, the next Scarecrow of Oz expresses an eagerness to learn that goes often underestimated by the brain-having populace!
I’ve actually been meaning to redesign this nerd. It’s been a year and a half since Barley’s creation, but I did it!
Barley’s alright with he/him/his/himself as well as ze/zem/zir/zirself (and “they” in singular form), though I’ve been wanting to practice using gender-neutral pronouns. I thought that writing out zir profile with the latter would help out in that department. As you can probably tell, Barley aka freshly baked cinnamon role within my OC trash pile is the next Scarecrow of Oz. ^^
Dear person I hate~
Dear person I hate,
Hate is too strong a word to use. I don’t necessarily hate you. Rather, I find you worthy of my disdain and contempt.
Pathetic puts my emotions lightly, I believe. Perhaps too lightly. You’re more than pathetic. You’re a living joke. Your life is lived with pathos – and not even the admirable kind. Every action you do, every word you say… I simply don’t believe you recognise how many people think you as an appalling, dreadful person. You carry yourself so obnoxiously, as if you were superior to everyone, when you’re just about as comparable to a squashed soda can in the gutter.
In fact, I cannot believe that I wasted precious time writing this letter to you. You – who won’t even bother to look at the contents, reassess himself and maybe change. You – who will probably laugh mockingly with gratuitous scorn, before rolling up the paper into another one of those joints of yours.
Sincerely,
I may be erased from history, but you’ll go down as a joke.
Do it.
I will write about the following, leave one in my ask box.
Dear person I hate,
Dear person I like,
Dear ex boyfriend,
Dear ex girlfriend,
Dear ex bestfriend,
Dear bestfriend,
Dear *anyone*,
Dear Santa,
Dear mom,
Dear dad,
Dear future me,
Dear past me,
Dear person I’m jealous of,
Dear person I had a crush on,
Dear girlfriend,
Dear boyfriend,
It’s coming. Be the first to find out here.

1. What is one thing people might find intolerable about them?
The rambling.
Airmid talks and rants and rambles about things she cares about, but other people don’t. Furthermore, she’s terrible at picking up social cues that let her know when to stop rambling, so generally she rambles until she suddenly realises that she’s rambling. Airmid infodumps on people to the point where it can be almost overwhelming.
Otherwise, Airmid’s interests might strike others as being rather pretentious. I’m talking science, philosophy, classical literature (like Greek and Roman stuff)... you know, academic ‘boring, stuffy, smart people’ stuff. She’s not trying to be pretentious, but when her interests are paired with her habit of organising things, making sure everything is correct/in the right place/in order/accurate/you get the point, to some people, she comes off as a pseudo-intellectual know-it-all.
4. Any addictions?
Probably her pyromania. Airmid finds a lot of comfort in an open fire, carrying a box of matches and a lighter around whenever she goes. To Airy, fire means life, and life is the thing that’s precious to her most of all, since she sacrifices it in her destiny. Paired with that is her habit of collecting candles (and lots of candles), as well as her love of explosions.
15. How might they be ignorant or prejudiced?
A lot, actually.
Let’s see, Airmid is white, with very Eurocentric views on the world. The types of books she read are very academic, and seen as “intellectual”.
Despite being “enlightened” by science, Airmid is still be ignorant. Growing up with reading centuries of literature written by privileged European white men, Airmid didn’t have much experience with representation. Sure, she read furiously into Marie Curie and Cecilia Payne, but due to the narrow scope of books she read, her historical and literacy idols were pretty much white European men. That led her to have a very... dudebro-y attitude to life, to put it that way.
Before Ever After High, Airmid was practically unaware of feminist issues and LGBTA+ rights, thinking that women and people in the queer community should stop being annoying and just deal with life. However, as she moved through school, she made friends who were feminists and LGBTA+, and slowly began to be educated on these issues.
That was a rather illuminating experience for the young physician who began to realise no matter what people told her, prejudice still existed in society. Later, Airmid even began to identity as ace and agender (and as a feminist).
One of the things Airmid isn’t so ignorant about is the prejudice against people with developmental disorders and other disabilities, whether physical or mental. This is mainly because she is one of these people, and had to work hard to overcome any internalised hate she had about herself.
She’s definitely very ignorant about race issues though. Although Airmid would definitely not try to be racist, she’s still been conditioned by the fabric of society to say some ignorant stuff. As I said, she has a very Eurocentric mindset.
And although Airmid is trying to make a commentary on the prejudice against people with developmental disorders, and against the prejudice against women (especially queer women) in the scientific community, Airmid still falls trap to some of the toxic beliefs she was exposed to in her youth.
Maybe eventually Airmid will break out of her white, Eurocentric and classist shell. She’s still learning, after all.
Ask me about my OCs ► Character Flaws!
Toss some numbers in my inbox and the character I should answer them for.
1. What is one thing others might find intolerable about them? 2. Do they have any annoying quirks? If so, what are they? 3. Name one or more of their bad habits. 4. Any addictions? (Food, sex, drugs/alcohol, shopping, power/control, etc.) 5. What is one thing they do that can negatively affect their relationship with friends? 6. Their romantic relationships? 7. What is the biggest mistake they’ve ever made? 8. What mistake(s) do they continue to make/have not learned from? 9. Name some of their major physical shortcomings. 10. Some of their emotional shortcomings? 11. What are their intellectual shortcomings? 12. At least one thing that they tend to overreact to. 13. In what ways might they be overly negative and/or pessimistic? 14. Is there anything they are too optimistic about? 15. How might they be ignorant or prejudiced? 16. Do they have any behaviours and/or beliefs that cannot be adequately justified? 17. When would they be too judgmental of someone or something? 18. Are they ever a pushover about something? If so, how? 19. Is there anything they refuse to budge on? What are they stubborn about? 20. What is a self-inflicted misery of theirs? (i.e. something they perpetuate themselves)
