Addiction is real. Broken people are real. Loss is real. Loneliness, depression, mental/emotional illness, disease, hate, bitterness, jealousy, envy, infidelity, war, murder, anxiety, self harm and satan are real.. but God is REAL. There is nothing He can’t do to get glory with every situation and life. It might look dark, but there is always light. You can’t worry and trust God at the same time. Whatever your struggle is, speak life into it. You have victory in Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus. There may be a million things going wrong in your life, but there is only one solution.. God. He can take a million wrongs and make it right. Trust Him.

There is something people who have never been abused, or raped will never truly understand. More often than not, the aftermath of being abused/raped is a lot worse than actually being in that situation. Purely because of the thoughts and the self destruction that follows. There is no time scale for healing. For some it may take a few months, for others it could take a few years but one thing is for sure, we will never stop fighting. We have to wake up every day and chose to reclaim our lives.

The horror, the horror...

Last weekend, thirty three men raped one girl in Rio de Janeiro.

Thirty three men.

One girl.

And you know what’s worse? There are some ignorant idiots who have the never to defend them. They had the audacity to say that because of the clothes she was wearing and because she was at that kind of place she was asking to be raped. And seeing their comments on facebook, I felt like screaming, like finding out their addresses and going there to beat some sense into their heads. No one, NO ONE in their right mind asks to be raped. The humiliation, the fear, the pain, the psychological trauma and all other things it entails… No one asks to go through this. No one should go through this. And It’s never, ever the victim’s fault. No matter where they are, how provocative or revealing their clothes are, no matter how drunk they are, nothing, absolutely nothing justifies the act of raping someone.

Every eleven minutes a girl is raped (In Brazil, where I live). I wasn’t raped not because I’m a more conservative person, or because I don’t usually go to parties, or drink, or anything of the sort. I wasn’t raped because I was lucky. LUCKY. That is, until now. For all I know I could be walking to my job and someone could grab my arm, drag me into a dark corner and I’d become one of those girls in eleven minutes. And what I was wearing, what I was doing would have nothing to do with it. It wouldn’t protect me or anyone else if someone decided to rape us. And they may just go unpunished, because of how effective Brazilian police is (not), and how money and class plays a role as well. If you are poor, chances are they won’t bother much with your case. If they bother at all, and this happens in a shopping mall, for example, they’ll do their best to keep the media quiet. They may even pay you to stay quiet.

What’s more, there are some idiots in our congress who want to prohibit us from having an abortion, if we happen to get pregnant with our rapists child, which IS allowed by our current law. Instead of trying to approve this new law, why the hell don’t they propose harsher penalties to rapists, or ways to improve security so that we women can walk on the streets without the fear of being raped? Propose something which will actually IMPROVE our situation instead of making many more miserable?

It’s a sad society and a sad country I live in, and I can only hope that after this awful thing these men did to this innocent girl people will open their eyes, that they’ll see that there are so many wrong things with our society and try to change.

I just wish it didn’t take thirty men raping one innocent girl for it to happen.
