HE swore he never had such a restful sleep like this, at least not in a long while. Rocinante had become accustomed to stealing his sleep through inopportune daytime naps around the Family, reducing the amount of time he had to interact with them, and affording him the awareness at night for any espionage work. Frankly, he had no idea that such a simple herb as chamomile would have knocked him out peacefully like this, even without his silencing powers! When at last did eyes open, he noted the bed was empty and the sun was already up, both oddities but not things to worry about he supposed, though the tiny cabin was quiet save for the creak of the poor overworked bed when he sat up. Glimpsing the white suit upon the chair ā the very same chair he sat upon when caring for an injured Birkan ā confusion overcame him. It wasnāt a Marine outfitā¦
ONLY after getting ready for the day and bathing did he approach the suit, finding it sized appropriately. It was obvious his fiancĆ© meant for him to wear it, though he knew heād get his answer as soon as he found Enel. The usual began to go into the pockets ā lighter, carton of cigarettes ā before he felt something else, discovering the note left inside. The thought brought a chuckle as he unfolded it to read it, recalling how he had once done something similar for the other, though the laugh was short-lived as he read the handwritten words.
WAS Enel⦠serious? They were going to go through with it? They were actually going to go ahead and get married ⦠!? Here he had felt it was a dream to achieve such a thing, but this note promised to make it a reality!
ROCINANTE felt a sudden rush of nerves and adrenaline, running a hand through messy locks regardless of the note, panicking a bit as he looked around in search of something, anything. Was he missing anything? Did he need to bring something? Was his tie alright?? But no ā it seemed Enel had apparently everything prepared⦠all that was left to do was to not dirty the suit on his way to the beach.Ā
HOW could he stay relaxed at such a time and walk to the beach like nothing special was happening? Screw his birthday ā it was a wedding! Each step he took brought the man closer to the beach and to the verge of tears of joy, knowing that this wouldnāt be some sick and elaborate prank, not after everything they had endured together. And at last did he glimpse the other waiting as it said he would out on the pristine sand, the familiar sound of waves lapping mingled with the sunlight sparkling off of blue water. But as beautiful as the scene was, it hardly compared to the only man he had ever fallen for, standing there all dressed up formally, the man he would soon get to call his husband. As he approached, he didnāt even care about the bump on his head from the doorway when leaving, having managed to not trip a single time on the way, mind only for Enel as hands reached out to him, taking up the otherās in a shaky but tight grip.
ā Is⦠is this really happening? ā Rocinante asked, disbelief evident in his tone as if this were all just a dream, smile beginning to hurt his cheeks. But so far this proved to be reality, those tears that threatened to fall earlier at last spilling as he could only laugh.Ā ā Enelā¦! I canāt believe this!Ā ā He would get to call the other his husband !
After he prepared everything for a few weeks, Enel knows that the upcoming minutes, or hours, depending if Rocinante finds the note easily or not, would be the longest. Somehow, he doesnāt know, for example, Rocinanteās thoughts and beliefs regarding a religious union. His practical spirit had bothered him for a while, Enel working on the perfect wedding on his side, hoping to surprise and please the love of his life. He has never thought he would be standing in front of an altar one day, his selfishness and loneliness pushing him to live a life without anyone to love nor to protect. It was better that way, after all⦠His wounds were not only about two ripped wings, neither two scars mapping his back. It was something deeper, a hatred towards mankind and his own weaknesses, and only Rocinante has been able to soothe his damaged soul. Enel was the one with wings, but his blond lover has always been the real angel in their odd and strange balance.
He sighs, his icy blue eyes gazing at the ocean, calm and luminous today, the sun reflecting on the surface like thousands of diamonds. He lost track of time since heās waiting here, his suit quite despicable for someone who doesnāt like to wear any sort of shirt in the first place. To match Rocinanteās outfit, Enel picked something his lover would probably like; his usual monk suit for his travel, but this one sewed in a noble fabric, embroidered with laces and pearls, entirely ivory with apricot thin lines following the edges of the clothing. He didnāt try to comb his hair either, itās falling in straight honey strands all around his skull, his sapphire eyes eventually gazing back at the alley, covered in hibiscus flowers, until Rocinante would show up. The man who will marry them is not a religious person, but a traveler Enel met a few years back, when he was going to and fro up there. He married his parents before, believing in a hedonist philosophy, and the power of two souls colliding together.
At some point, Rocinante is finally arriving. Enelās heart canāt help but skip a beat, his smile widening over his features, his golden jewels clicking while he spins and faces the man he loves. He abandons his position to move closer, his smile matching the astonished one growing over Rocinanteās features. āYes, itās really happening.ā Enel confirms, while he intertwined his fingers with his fiancĆ©ās, and slowly drags him to the altar. He only pauses when they are both standing in front of the flowered arch, the crashing sound of the waves their only music, for a few seconds.
Enel raises both of his hands to cup his loverās cheeks, softly massaging his cheekbones, until he lets them travel down, to catch the edge of his jacket. āI know itās your birthday, and I promise weāre going to celebrate it.ā He nods, his eyes sparkling with a blissful feeling he has never experienced before. āIf you still want this, well⦠I hope youāre going to say yes today.ā
