honestly? abandoned/on indefinite hiatus/very slow to update fics, even and especially AUs and longfics, are often some of my absolute favorites. and people who refuse to read them are missing out!
for one, stories don’t have to be finished to be enjoyable and worth reading. but also? an unfinished fic is a whole little universe that just keeps on existing in my head! their world stays alive for me in a way that doesn’t always happen with fics I binge read and finish, and i love it. i don’t know how their story ends, so it just keeps going! and even when those stories DO update and finish years later, they’ve been in my head for so long that they stick around like old friends.
so to any author with unfinished works: thank you SO much for sharing what you had without waiting to finish it first. you’re just giving me the gift of getting to spend more time with your story and your idea. if you do update again someday, i’ll be delighted to jump back in! but if you don’t, just know a little piece of your world still lives on in a beloved tiny terrarium in my brain. i promise i’m taking good care of it :)
i don’t normally ask this, but if this resonates with you please reblog it, so it can reach the authors who need to hear it <3

i am not a fic writer but i enjoy reading lestappen a lott, and just wanted to pop in and say something regarding the use of AI in fics recently.
It is very discouraging to see how "common" AI use has become. Some of my favorite writers spend months crafting plots, writing drafts and editing only to see the space dominated by people churning out thousands of words in the matter of a few days. If you are also like me, a reader who doesn't write, your duty is to avoid engaging with these works. If you don't give them attention, they will not be able to continue abusing this space in this manner.
and to all the wonderful writers on here, please don't let this disturbing pattern discourage you. keep sharing your magic into the world. your versions of lestappen are what keep our fandom together between long breaks and tough droughts.
tagging some of my favorite writers who put in hard work and strongly discourage AI use, please go show them some love: @xxredwineandambiencexx @ladysomething @fueledbyremembering @sixteenhearts @ferrarisma @fabbyf1 @toppamplemousse @loquarocoeur @adutchlover @chock-and-bates @unlapped @formula-fun @usedtobetam @breathofnyx @gingerf1 @drivestraight @amarynas @mvlionheart @reveushe @verstappentime @hitthatapex
you all deserve the world <3
When I first joined this fandom, I was a reader of many of these tagged writers. Over time, I gained the courage to post my own stories after having already posted in the K-pop fandom (god knows my chanbaek fics). I've found true friendships, that are not just part of my writing progress, but my life outside here. People who help me continually improve, both my English (which isn't my native language) and my plots. Even with my entire writing process, I still struggle with my own insecurities every day and still have dozens of plots created and unpublished.
At the time, over a year and a half ago, Lestappen stories were less than half what they are now.
In the meantime, me and others were plagiarized by a "writer" who used a tentative friendship to steal my time, creativity, and The Invitation (co-written with Randomwordsonpaper), as well as the ideas for the camboys fic (the everyone watchin' us verse) and my vampire fic (sink your teeth) (which are two plots I loved, and after that I lost the desire to write the sequels, at least for now). Now, the person who did this (callumsgirl, tadejsgirl, pitlanelover, madameleclerc, and possibly many other names she uses to trick other writers) is now posting stories written in AI. As I mentioned to @33-16, there's so much AI stuff that now we always wonder if a new writer is just good and decent, or if they're AI.
With all this AI stuff, from SEVERAL writers lately, posting any of our stories is difficult, because even for us, being among these people is uncomfortable. It's really sad to see what the F1 fandom has become, and at what cost? Ego? FUCKING HELLLL, writing stories should be an escape zone, our happy bubble, not a cock-measuring contest!!!
Following @33-16 post, I need to also tag these writers that I love the fics and that give their passions to give us amazing plots: @randomwordsonpaper @autumnapricot @drivestraight @eaurouge-sangnoir @toppamplemousse @moonlight0starlighte @hanquality
I've been thinking about how to add onto this well-written post by @adutchlover. It says so much, but barely scratches the surface of the story that I haven't really told anyone.
The person at the centre of this particular call-out was my co-author at the time that their use of AI was discovered.
You'll notice that my pseud is still attached to works that we did together. I'm confident that there are very little to no amounts of AI within those works. The reason I haven't removed them is because I put so many hours and thousands of words into them. I have a lot of emotions around all of that writing, which I'm still working through many months later.
My ex-co-author's use of generative AI was discovered by a mutual friend of ours (@miss_vivi_reads). She is a wonderful person, and a loyal reader of both F1 and Cycling RPF. She knew something wasn't quite right and did some sleuthing.
My gut was also telling me something was off, too. I spoke to Vivi, as I had the same suspicions regarding not AI, but copy and paste of a different story.
What followed was a week of putting puzzle pieces together, working things out, meeting @adutchlover to compare stories, and finding out that some things were not entirely honest.
The person in question created a new account on AO3, and started posting stories in the F1 fandom that were entirely created by generative AI. They pretended to be a different person, to become friends with F1 authors. They started commenting on their F1 "stories" with their own account to drive up "engagement" — and even those comments are AI.
I have had a lot of emotions to work through about this situation, and I've been lucky that many of my friends have been so supportive.
This isn't the full story - it's a very long, convoluted story, but I'll save that for another time — perhaps.
I'm sharing this so that members of the Cycling RPF fandom who follow me are aware.
If you're going to use generative AI to write fic, keep it to yourself. If you decide to post works, make them your own. Make them through hours of plotting, writing, editing, deleting, second drafts.
Generative AI helps no-one, and when involved in a situation like this — it just hurts everyone.
I put this out there in the hopes that it was all said and done, but unfortunately it seems as though it's not.
My ex-co-author — who has existed on AO3 under usernames including tadejsgirl, callumsgirl, madameleclerc, and most recently pitlanelover — has created a new account to continue publishing AI-generated works.
She has been called out by @adutchlover, @bbygirlverstappen and others for publishing Formula One works generated by artificial intelligence, as well as commenting on her own works using her other accounts and AI to drive up engagement.
Unfortunately, she has now begun to do the same under the username velodreamer within the cycling community. She has published two chapters to date, which are entirely AI-generated, and is pretending to be brand new to this community. She has also written one comment on her own work so far under a guest name.
I would urge any and all cycling friends to be wary, and feel free to ask me questions if you want to.
Don't let this dampen your enthusiasm for the legitimate works within the community — please, give them the recognition they deserve. Just because there is one among us who has chosen to take this path, doesn't mean others have.
I would love to be done with all this, but AI is incredibly damaging to creative communities and I would hate to see its roots deepen inside a community I love.

@is-this-mathieu-enriched what are we looking at?
This is an introduction gone badly wrong!
Socialising is a very important part of enriching your beloved companion's life, whether that be a planned meet-up at the park, or an improptu meeting during supervised outdoor time. Even the most solitary of species benefit from being able to interact with others, although don't be suprised if they initially remain close to you until they are comfortable the situation presents no threat.
In the wild, dominance battles are far more common than in captivity. It is a myth that they always result in a physical fight! In fact this is very rare, as it wastes energy far better spent on catching prey. Other than in mating season, most dominance battles instead consist of threat posturing. A Mathieu will hiss and spit, a Ben raise his crest, and a Jasper adopt the 'puff pose' to make himself look larger. Once dominance has been asserted, the loser will generally leave immediately yet without being harmed.
In captivity, many species have lost this implicit understanding that a fight helps neither party. This can unfortunately lead to dominance displays being badly misunderstood.
The picture above shows a Wout, Tiesj and Neilson in a temporary enclosure. Likely this was intended as a neutral area to allow them to meet, however this space is clearly much too small for this purpose. No hides are available, and so the three of them are being forced into unavoidable close proximity.
This Wout is badly stressed. He is extremely close to the camera, which may be held by his keeper, and his body language is signalling he is feeling threatened and looking for an immediate way out. If one is not provided, he is likely to begin biting until the threat is no longer so pressing. He should be immediately returned to his travel enclosure with a favourite comfort item, and allowed to self-soothe.
The Tiesj is also stressed, however he is reacting not with aggression but by trying to hide. Although hiding behind his hand does not conceal him, this fact is not always as obvious to our beloved companions as it is to us. Matejs are masters of using camouflage to aid their hunts, however as many keepers know, plenty of Mathieus will cover their eyes and believe themselves invisible! He too should be returned to his own travel enclosure at once (if necessary, a temporary hide can always be improvised with a scarf or shawl until he is safely back in his own enclosure).
Unusually for the species, this jewelled Neilson is strongly projecting dominance. It may be that this meeting is taking place within his territory, and he is ensuring that both intruders recognise this fact. Alternatively it is possible he may have been challenged by the Wout or Tiesj, but he has clearly come out of this encounter the winner.
Although he too should be returned to his own enclosure, it is recommended to offer a session of active play first, followed by a feeding. Regardless of the rights and wrongs involved, dominance battles always produce an excess of adrenaline, best worked off before returning your beloved companion to their enclosure.
people who don't experience hyperfixation don't know what it feels like to hyperfixate so much on something that it becomes not only your subject of obsession but also your source of happiness and literally the main reason why you still keep going; literal source of strength and life.

If you ever want to watch a race with us, just holler in our general direction and we‘ll roll out the red carpet!
You all are SOOOOO sweet, thank you so much!! I love hearing that people are having fun and trying new things and getting hyped about creating works for this challenge. It's the only thing that keeps me doing it each year and I'm so glad cycling fandom is still having a blast with ti.
I will have to watch a race sometime!! Thank you for the invite 🙇🙇
