Gökhan Tanrıöver

Gökhan was born in the beautiful city of Izmir (Turkey) and moved to London at a very young age because the sun, the beach and crystal-clear waters weren’t as fun as grey skies and concrete buildings. Also, he was just a little kid when he moved to the UK, so he pretty much had to live wherever his parents lived. When he’s not busy writing about himself in the third person, Gökhan loves taking photographs from a conceptual and fine art approach. He is currently studying for his BA in Photographic Arts at Westminster University. Thanks for stopping by!

LAST DRAWN BLOOD I became friends with the only other kid in the hospital. When she became too sick I was forbidden to speak to her. I didn’t know how to explain it so I ignored her. A column with a closure on one end

A tube rolled into a circle

A circle placed within a square,

A lifeless sheath

A soulless membrane,

Made for a strained envelopment.

Only until its disunion, its laceration, its demise

A delicate wall

A fragile separation 

Holding back a closer integration.

Immobile, supine and damp

Burdened by the stale air stagnant despite open windows,

His flesh strained me.

Through his loveless action

The sheath broke and the membrane ruptured, 

Our bodies integrated. 

Only at that dawn

The call to prayer

The omen to end my childhood nightmares

That echo from a far away tower

The signal to end the darkness

And announce the arrival of light yet out of reach,

Had lost its meaning.

As the room filled with light unhurriedly 

Something within me tarnished,

It darkened. 

Shame was placed upon me

By those close to me and not by him,

Somehow it was my fault.

Through an act so loveless,

I was deemed unlovable.
