Casual strides carry her in his direction, though she doesn’t think she’ll catch up with him. “You treated me better than you should’ve, y’know?” She kicks a pebble across the pavement and pauses to watch it skip and bounce. “Maybe I’m not such a good woman.” His earnestness touches her. “Ugh, I almost feel bad.”
