“Don’t even bloody think about replacing me, I’ll be back in a second! I just need another drink!” Marlene laughed as she called over her shoulder, shoving her way through the increasingly dense amount of bodies that were camping by the bar top, making it nearly impossible to get refills.
Pouting her irritation, Marlene careened up onto her tip-toes, trying to get a good look over the crowd to see if there was perhaps another place to refill her Butterbeer. Who she spotted instead, however, made her heart drop in her chest. Right down to the pit of her stomach where it awoke all those silly butterflies, her infatuation with Edgar Bones now a guttural reaction, it seemed.
She’d been drinking too much for too long to have any reservations now. Fun & games forgotten, Marlene wove her way back out of the crowded line, half jogging over to him. When she fell into his line of vision, Marlene’s knees almost gave out from under her at the bloody smile lighting up his face, practically beaming sunshine at her before she’d even approached.
“Bones!” she called out her greeting, the only warning he gets before she’s racing towards him. Honestly, it’s the most natural thing in the world to Marlene, for her to close the distance between them and leap into his arms for a hug - knowing he’d catch her, and she doesn’t even question her blind trust in him ( although it may just be a result of the inebriation running hot in her veins ).
Laughing breathlessly, Marlene blushed as he placed her back on her feet, hands slipping from around his neck so her palms were resting on his chest, not bothering to put any other distance between them. Was she coming on too strong? Probably. Did she care? Absolutely not.
“Fancy seeing you here,” Marlene quipped with a playful shove, finally taking a step back. The grin on her face was merry, brown eyes gazing up at him with that doe eyed look she usually reserved for behind his back, when he spoke at Order meetings; if she thought her crush on him had been grossly obvious before, it was nothing compared to right now. “Need a drink, yeah?” she asked cheerfully, both a question and a statement, holding her own empty mug up in solace.
Edgar Bones had made a good time for himself at the game. Having gone with his siblings, he was reminded of why he had come back from his worldly travels. It was all for them; to protect them. However, catching up with Fabian and Gideon - and other friends within the Order had certainly made it all worth-while. He hadn’t realized how much he’d missed out on until he returned. The opportunities...
Speaking of which, Edgar’s attention was fully on the young woman making her way towards him. Marlene McKinnon. Grinning brightly, Edgar chuckled a bit. An opportunity for something more than a fling...friendship...more than anything he’d ever experienced. Never before had he felt the way he did when Marlene worked her way back into his life. Usually, it was all fun and games, good partings - but after his date with Marlene, Edgar knew he wanted something more. Perhaps for the first time. While they hadn’t kissed, his lips burned remembering how thy pressed against her hand and cheek and how well their date had gone, catching up after so long.
Now, seeing her here before him, Edgar caught Marlene in his arms easily. “McKinnon!” He said happily; the faith she’d put in him to catch her was almost instinctual. It all felt...right. Holding her close, he spun them both around a time and a half, putting her back on her feet. His stomach felt twisted and funny, knowing he just wanted to keep close to her, more than pleasantly surprised as he looked down to her.
The hands on his chest made Edgar blush, moving his chest further into her touch as he took a breath. His own hands clasped behind at the small of her back as his arms enveloped her in his embrace. Were they closer now than before? Much. Was he coming off too strong? He hoped not. But looking into her eyes, Edgar knew it was all right.
Finally out of the seemingly daze he’d been put in because of her, Edgar chuckled at the playful shove. “As if I’d miss this match!” A bright smile was plastered on his face, his blue eyes meeting her doe one - and felt a shiver down his entire body - feeling goosebumps running up his arms. “I’ll get it for you. You must be tired of fetching everyone else’s drink after all.” he grinned, then his long arms reached over to the bartender, placing both of their mugs down, “Two spiked ones, mate.” and looked back to her the mugs were filled, “Who’d you come with?” he asked, tipping once the drinks were done and gave Marlene hers - a charming smile hoping to captivate her as much as she had him.
