I'm glad I don't have a roommate here. It's quiet but at least with just me I only have to worry about my own things.
Problems? [Victoria notices the hesitation in the way the girl explains her power, so immediately her tone softens, along with her expressions.] It’s alright, dear. You can talk about it with me if you’d like.. it’s my job to help people who are having problems.
[Victoria finally smiles a little, nodding back.] Victoria Hendrix. It’s nice to meet you.
[As the professor's face softens Imogene feels herself becoming less nervous. Her voice is softer, too. Caring and concerned. Somehow, from this, Imogene can tell this woman is not one to hate her power. She's safe in her presence.] I...I have Chrysopoeia. [It sounded like a disease. Good. It feels like one.] Y-you might know it as Midas Touch? The clothes usually keep it in-- [She wraps her arms around herself and looks down.] --b-but sometimes it gets through a-and... I-I'm not supposed to touch people.
[Imogene glances up to see the smile and faintly smiles back.] It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Professor Hendrix.
[Kirk was originally looking for Sebastian. He had a test and his tutor had promised him that he was well enough to help him study. However, Sebastian was no where to be found. He was about to ask the small blonde girl if she had seen him when she suddenly gasped in surprise then snatched the flower she was looking at out of it’s vase. Kirk raised an eyebrow at her when she turned around. He looked down to the flower and stiffened.]
[Gold. The flower solid gold. If this were a normal situation he would accept the flower no question but this wasn’t normal. That flower was not golden a few seconds ago, he was sure of it. Why would there be a golden flower in that vase? The girl made it that way. Sebastian was wiped from his mind at this point.]
Why is that flower golden? [He knew why. But he wanted to hear it from her. He wanted to know exactly what she did. She seemed odd, what with how her clothing seemed to cover ever inch of her but her face. She may have more things about her that he didn’t know.]
[Imogene's fingers tightened around the golden flower and she brought it close to her. There was something about the way this boy looked at her... something that told her that she made a mistake in offering him the flower. There was no hint of friendliness. More hatred and disgust.]
I--I j-just um... [She doesn't want to tell him what she did. She doesn't want to admit to her power but she knows she's already been caught.] I-I t-touched it. I didn't m-mean to it's j-just...t-that's what h-happens to everything I touch. I-I have Midas Touch.
[She pauses and takes a step back] Are...are you...one of the hunters? A-are you going to hurt me?
[Corinne is out for a run in the Tillamook Forest; a four-legged run. She’s learned to control when she transforms—for the most part—but it’s the actual ‘being a wolf’ part that she still has a hard time controlling. After a few hours of exploration, Corinne makes her way back to the tree where her bag of clothes is buried.]
[Imogene took to the forest for exploring purposes. She didn't know where she was, really, but she was certain she could find her way back. Well...almost certain. After a bit of walking she had taken off one of her gloves and starting picking out leaves that she liked. At her touch they would flash into gold and then she'd tuck them away in her bag, making note to make something out of them later. She's in the middle of picking up a leaf when she hears a snap of a twig. She looks up to see a wolf and she quickly straightens up and takes a slow step backwards. She's not afraid of it attacking her. But she's got a free hand. One touch would mean a golden wolf.]
S-stay...over there...[She says quietly and nervously.]
I’m alright, dear. [The girl seems utterly relieved that Victoria hadn’t somehow blown up due to the little incident, but she wasn’t going to make fun of her for it.] Only a bump. And only a bad day. You needn’t worry about me.
[She pauses.] However, since we’re here, welcome to Hailgrove. You’re a new student, I’m assuming?
O-okay. It's just-- [she pauses. Her mother told her to keep quieter about her power. There were people out there who didn't like powers, she had run in to some before when she was at her first school. Still it was hard not to recite the warning of her power in her introduction. It had become somewhat of a second nature to her.] --I-I can sometimes cause...problems when I bump into people.
[She nods] Yes, Ma'am I am new. My name is Imogene Davis. I'm a first year. [Please never touch me if you don't want to turn to a gold sculpture.] Thank you for the welcome.
[Avery nods. She’s more careful now, especially since she knows her life has some value. If she’s going to make this promise again, she’s going to keep it.] I won’t. I promise.
[You’re worth more than gold to me. Avery knows she’s probably blushing, and she looks down to stop herself from somehow grinning even wider.]
Exactly like Olaf in Frozen. [Avery answers, looking up at Imogene. She waits for Imogene to take off her glove, then she takes her hand. Her skin is soft, and she can’t help but wonder what it must feel like for her. Holding someone’s hand, it had to be something amazing.] Of course. Let’s go.
[Imogene accepts Avery's promise. She believes her this time. This time she's here for good.]
[She's never made someone blush before but she can see it growing on Avery's cheeks. She giggles at this. Usually she's the one blushing.]
[She looks down at the dog.] I wish I could pet him. [She says. Dogs and other animals still frighten her. She's not used to them and their tendency to simply approach people without warning makes her jumpy. However, she doesn't say anything about Olaf. She looks at Avery's hand in her's. It's rougher than her's but, of course, everyone's hand probably is. Imogene's is so hardly used it's as soft as a child's, she remembers having a conversation with Geoffery about it before. However, the roughness of Avery's hand is welcomed. It's warm and comforting. Everything gold it is not. She never wants to let go. She wants to trace Avery's hand and learn every line on it and know every feel of it so to have something to remember when everything turns to gold again.] Okay. I don't know where anything is around here just yet. So you just lead me, I'll follow.
[Victoria lets out an annoyed huff, but when she looks at who had bumped into her, she sees it’s a new student, and she forces herself to calm down. Bad first impressions aren’t her thing. Besides, she doesn’t want to blow up a student on their first day.]
It’s quite alright. Entirely my fault.
[Imogene can tell she's in a bad temper. She hates when people are in a bad mood. It makes her want to cheer them up. They have so much to be happy about.]
Well I'm glad you're alright. [Yes, not a golden statue is alright. Imogene would have never left her room if she ended up turning a teacher to gold on one of her first days. She bites her lip.] Is...is everything okay, professor?
[In between classes, Victoria walks through campus, noticeably irritated. She probably doesn’t look very inviting, but she doesn’t really care.]
[Imogene has her notebook clutched to her chest as she weaves through people, careful to keep her distance. She's good at this. She always watches where she's going.]
[Sometimes others don't though. This time it was a professor. One that looked to irritated to watch where she was going. As she moves past Imogene can't find room to move around her and before she can stop anything she's being sideswiped by the professor and stumbling backwards. Her grip on her notebook tighten, she takes in a sharp breath, and her eyes widen but the professor seems to be fine. Imogene lets out her breath in a sigh of relief. None of her power slipped through.]
I'm very sorry, professor. I usually don't run into others... [Technically the professor ran into her but Imogene is too polite to blame it all on the teacher.]
[Imogene explores the dorm quietly. She never leaves her room much. She always sees it as too hazardous with her ability and she's already turned enough things to gold in there. The bed frame. The dresser. The dorm people are going to kill her.]
[She sighs and reaches out to touch a petal of a decorative daisy. As her finger traces it she can feel her power fighting the gloves material and, before she has time to pull back, her power breaks through for a second and the daisy is stuck with it. In a flash the living flower turns to solid gold and Imogene gasps. She quickly plucks it from the vase. She hopes no one saw but when she turns there's someone staring]
Um...[She looks down at the golden daisy then holds it out] do you want it?
[Avery lets out a laugh - not really because anything is funny, but because she’s so relieved and happy.] I was, for a bit. It’s kind of a long story.. but I’m back now! And Adam has a baby, a little girl named after me. I can explain it all to you later, if you’d like.
So do I! You should come with me on a walk, Olaf needs to stretch his legs. We can go in the forest, there’ll be no one around.
[Imogene keeps her eyes trained on Avery. She becomes serious. Last time she knew Avery she made her promise she wouldn't leave and she broke that. Imogene would make sure that didn't happen again.] Don't...don't die again. You c-can't leave me again, Avery.
You're...You're worth more than gold to me, Avery. [One of her hands finds Avery's and squeezes.]
[She glances at the small dog by Avery's side and she flinches when it moves towards her.] O-Olaf? [She smiles at the name.] Like the snowman in Frozen? [She smiles brightly at Avery.] I love that movie. I-I'd love to go on a walk with you but-- [she lets go of Avery's hand and carefully slips off her glove then holds out her hand.] --will you hold my hand?
[Avery lets out a laugh, something she didn’t think she’d be able to do fr a while. In the midst of everything going on in her life, suddenly there was some sunshine, and it was her.] I’m very much alive, yeah. [She doesn’t pull away from the hug for a while, but when she does she keeps her hands on Imogene’s shoulders, looking at her and gently wiping away her tears with her thumb. She can feel tears in her own eyes, but she ignores them. They’re happy tears. All the memories of the moments they’ve shared together some rushing back, and she grins.]
What are you doing here?
[Imogene grabs fistfuls of Avery's shirt in her hands.] T-they said you were dead. They-they said y-you were dead! A-Adam said you-you died! [Imogene feels Avery pull away and she allows her to. When she wipes away her tears, Imogene savors the touch of her thumb pressing across her cheek. It had been too long since she felt that touch. Loving and kind. Nothing like the cold, hard gold she knew all too well.]
I-I go to school here. What are you doing here?
That’s what happens when you have a bunch of college kids trying to get their last bit of sin in before Easter.
L-last bit of sin? I....don't follow. I-I'm sorry. Um...I'm Imogene.
[Avery had been out visiting her dying brother, but eventually she knew she’d have to come back. Now she’s outside, taking one of her small dogs for a walk through campus because he missed her.]
[She spots a young girl standing near one of the dorms, and immediately she recognizes her. Could it be? It isn’t until she speaks out loud, and that familiar, soft voice reaches Avery’s ears. She almost drops the leash as she runs forward.] Imogene! [She squeaks out as she throws herself into a hug. Her power negation kicks in without a second thought around Imogene, so she doesn’t have to worry about being affected. Not with her.]
[Imogene stumbled one step backwards, the groups of people passing by gradually increasing her panic, until she hears a voice cut through crowd. A familiar voice. Yelling her name. She freezes, wondering if she was just hearing things or that voice was real. She sees someone running towards her and she lets out what sounds like a laugh and a sob.]
Avery! [Imogene's arms fly around the other girl tightly when she's hugged and she immediately buries her head in her shoulder. She takes in the feel of the skin on Avery's neck on her cheek forehead and the fabric of her shirt against her nose and chin. Such foreign sensations that are also familiar at the same time. She's crying. She can feel her tears making Avery's shirt damp. But she can't help it.] Y-you're alive!
I-I didn't realize how busy it was outside today... [Imogene backs up towards the dorm entrances] M-maybe I should just stay inside today..
