New Life Series song out now! I wrote this as part of a zine that ended up being cancelled, but loved the song enough that I couldn't help but finish it and post it! The idea was that this song is being written and performed in-universe at a Battle of the Bands event! A fun genre to explore!
Lyrics under the cut.
Well I heard
You’ve been telling lies now it’s
My turn
Colour me surprised
did that fall hurt?
You bet I’d do it again
Guess I learned
Not to play it fair
With the bridge burned,
And the secret’s aired
Did you play it safe? Did you win the game?
Were you scared?
We can try and try and then try again
Dig it deeper, and paint the roses red
We can climb and climb and not reach the end
But it’s not the worst we’ve got
I heard that villains never win
(You got, you got, you got the wrong subplot)
I heard that stories never end
(You got, you got, you got the wrong subplot)
I heard that nothing’s ever over ’til it is
And I learned
To never trust a friend
Interlude (instrumental)
Then I’ll burn
Fizzle out before the
Tides turn
Go on, sound the horn
I’m not standing on the edge,
Waiting for the game to end
Waiting ’til the rest are dead
Waiting ’til we all turn RED
We can try and try and then try again
Dig it deeper, and paint the roses red
We can climb and climb and not reach the end
But it’s not the worst we’ve got
I heard that villains never win
(You got, you got, you got the wrong subplot)
I heard that stories never end
(You got, you got, you got the wrong subplot)
I heard that nothing’s ever over ’til it is
And I learned
Go ahead and pay the price
Go ahead, I’ll be nice,
Take a chance and roll the dice
Go ahead and try
Go ahead and try
Go ahead and win the game
Go ahead and fan the flame
When you get there, say my name
Go ahead and try, go ahead and try
Go ahead and D-
I heard that villains never win
(You got, you got, you got the wrong subplot)
I heard that stories never end
(You got, you got, you got the wrong subplot)
I heard that nothing’s ever over ’til it is
And I learned
To never trust a friend

LYRICS
Is it cold tonight to you?
Must be something with the moon
Something scarlet, something cruel
Something we forgot to do?
A weary widow bows his head
He stands his vigil to the end
By his side, still soaked in red
A wanderer, a curse, a threat.
The widow and the wanderer
They played a lonely dirge
The widow said “the game will end, and with it ends the curse”
The wanderer responded, “thats where you and i diverge
the widow mourns, the widow weeps,
the wanderer moves on.”
I remember long ago,
In a circle lined with stones.
They bore their fists, exchanging blows
Still, he’d never let him go
The Widow and the Wanderer,
They laughed, they sang and cried
The wanderer raised up her glass: “a toast to times gone by”
The widow stood to meet her, to look her in the eyes
The widow mourns, the widow weeps,
When all his friends are gone
She knows she sent her off to die.
She knows she never said goodbye.
She knows that hes the reason why.
She knows… She knows…
She knows she can’t turn back the time,
She knows the burning won’t subside,
She screams her rage into the sky.
She knows… she knows…
The widow and the wanderer,
They walked the red-stained fort
The widow’s hand an hourglass, the wanderer’s a sword
The wanderer, her eyes ablaze, she joined the bloody war
The widow mourns, the widow weeps,
The widow carries on
The widow and the wanderer,
The night without a day.
The widow writes a eulogy “to those I couldn’t save”
The wanderer, hands scarlet, lays a rose upon her grave
The widow mourns, the widow weeps,
The wanderer moves on.

New song "The Desert" just released on YT. I'm so proud of this song. It's about Scar, framed through like, a Desert Duo-esque approach. Art by the phenomenal @cocoabats. Hope you enjoy! Lyrics under the cut!
LYRICS
I left you in the desert, left the rivers, left the sea
Where the desert wind would tear the sand, like swords against the breeze
Where the ghosts of who we left behind, would howl a rhapsody
When I left you in the desert, I thought that you’d leave me
I left you in the desert, like the sun would leave the sky
Left the bridges that we built and burned, the ones we left to die
Left the hungry, left the needy, left the ever-watching eyes
When I left you in the desert, you left your soul behind
As you stayed there in the desert, the sun began to rise
And the desert showed you mercy
And the desert held your hand
And the desert killed you slowly
’Til your heart returned to sand
I left you in the darkness, where the sun can never reach
Where the all-consuming silence hears the words you’d never speak
Where the whispers lead to madness at the heart’s incessant beat
All alone there in the darkness, where no-one heard the screams
When I died down in the darkness, you died along with me
And the darkness bid you pity
And the darkness set you free
And the darkness killed you quickly
When it dragged you down with me
I left you in the desert (in the desert)
I left you in the desert (in the desert)
I left you in the desert (in the desert)
I left you in the desert (in the desert)
Did they ever show you mercy?
Did they ever hold your hand?
Did they kill you so damn slowly?
That you didn’t understand?
Did they look to you with pity?
Did they laugh when you weren’t there?
Did they think that you weren’t listening?
Did they think you wouldn’t care?
I left you midst the sunflowers, with the shadows by your side
Left you safe and warm and sheltered, in a world that never dies
Where the past can’t be forgotten, where the story never ends
New song premiering soon (30 hours)! Tune it at 12am Wed (AEDT) to be among the first to hear my new song: The Desert, about Scar throughout the life series, framed through a sorta... Desert Duo perspective. If you stop by for the premiere, say hi in chat!
Art by the fantastic @cocoabats and I'm seriously so amazed by it. It absolutely captures the song so perfectly.
god every day the temptation to just post a lyrical analysis of my music gets stronger. like 60% of the game with my songwriting is fitting in subtle little references
Check out Red, a new song I wrote about Shiny duo’s Wild Life feud. The fantastic art (seriously, this whole thing would be nothing without the art) was done by @boxofoxberry and it’s been an absolute delight seeing it come together! So excited to share it with y'all!
Lyrics under the cut!
Last night I dreamed, Dreamed of a world much like our own
A world besieged, A world on fire, a world aglow
And as I watched, I saw two figures, rise from the ashes
Astounded, I watched as they rounded on each other
I watched as one turned on the other,
To save another,
I watched as she died
I watched the fire fade from her eyes
And when I woke, I woke and saw you through the dark
A world reborn, A world where we are worlds apart
Over the mountains, Over the rivers
Riding beside you, Follow the whispers
Over the midnights, Over the moon
Are you still listening? Are they still watc hing you?
Oh when we were together, we were ride and die
We were stormy weather, We were dynamite
We were stuff of legends Back when we were friends
But you said we can’t talk until your blood bleeds red
Do you still hate me? Will you forgive me?
Do you still need me? Do you still want me? Please say you want me
Say the game will never end, The score can be reset,
Your heart’s still in your chest, Pull another from the deck
Ain’t no bleeding, Ain’t no fighting,
Ain’t no crying, Ain’t no dying
Say, until this whole thing ends, please ust say we were friends
Over the hunger, Over the pain,
Riding beside you, Like nothing’s changed.
Over the bridges, Over the trees,
Are they still following? Can you hear me?
Oh when we were together, we were ride and die
We were stormy weather, We were dynamite
We were stuff of legends But stories have to end
And we were reunited ’til your blood bled red
We climbed the highest mountains, Then fell the greatest height
A world that turned to chaos, And rolled unlucky dice
We were stuff of legends, and we will be again
But you were only human, and your blood bleeds red
