Hell Maiden tomorrow
can everybody play Hell Maiden and give it a positive review even though it's a little buggy and content-bare at the moment? it's really promising, as someone who doesn't generally like 'bullet heaven' games. it's got all the AstralShift goodness anyone righteous under heaven should be familiar with by now on top of a pretty engaging core. all for only ten bucks, right now! give them money. Give them money and praise. They're the only indie studio who deserves the glaze.
Traverse the depths of Hell and beat its toughest demons on your way to Heaven in this horde survival deck-building game inspired by Dante's
i have a croissant related grievance
the entire appeal of the croissant is that it is a layered pastry item. it has a light flaky texture. the layers are in there specifically to create a fluffy, airy eating experience. that's the intention of the lamination process. having so many layers of butter and thin pastry dough make the croissant puff up when it's baked so that when you bite into it the pastry has a texture similar to puff pastry. the entire point is to fill the pastry with air. therefore any trendy hybrid variant of the croissant such the "cruffin" or the "cronut" or the worst offender of all the "croffle" which involve jamming the unbaked croissant or compressing it into a flat shape completely betray croissant as it was originally intended. they defeat the nature of the croissant by forcing it into something it was never meant to be, removing the unique core of its identity, killing its appeal and thus its entire reason for being. now am i saying you can't enjoy a cronut or croffle? of course i would not say this. you can enjoy any pastry you want to enjoy because it's your time on earth. i want you to enjoy your croffle. you should enjoy your croffle. also, you can commit any sin you like and i can't stop you nor do i want to. i won't hear your arguments because you don't need to convince me. but you must understand, as you eat it, that the croffle should not exist. it is a mistake. it is an insult not only to the croissant but to me as an individual. i am not french
This reads as someone with a strong moral code (people should be free to experience joy without arbitrary regulation, you don’t have to like what other people like but your discomfort is your own problem) trying to maintain their faith in a time of hardship (they keep doing weird shit to croissants)
ill be so honest this read of my character in such a fraught croissanted context has me tearing up with the raw joy of being seen
i don't know why everyone always calls it the new rock by the water. it's the same as i remember, that's for sure.
my hottest deltarune take seems to be that i really liked how chapter 5 handled asgore. he's very richly characterised. his tragedy is compelling. you do, actually, learn a lot about him from the flowers. he even gets to aura farm a little. what's the problem? who was expecting more...
thinking back on 2018 it's kinda funny how 'kris is deltarune chara!!!' has become by far the least obnoxious 'kris origin take' alongside 'they're just their own guy'
the more i think about it the more strongly i suspect ralsei manifests from 'gaster's device' or deltarune.exe itself. it's the only real foreseeable source that can account for all the weirdness around them and castle town without major holes and while using something directly relevant and foregrounded in the main plot. i don't know why more people aren't on this yet. if they can't be a headband they're still certainly not a damn plant.
among other things:
accounts for the 'tutorial character' role
accounts for why they manifest as a lookalike of a beloved undertale character
accounts for their clear awareness of not merely the player's existence but their *perspective* ('close our eyes'; looking back at the player during C3 boards as kris does; speaking from within the dark world menu)
accounts for their complete knowledge of the prophecy *and* vaguer awareness and distrust of the weird route
accounts for how that superior prophecy knowledge most relevantly manifests in complete knowledge of maps and mechanics (knowing all puzzle solutions; susie's ribbons; 'noelle... can equip this' comment to the player re: thornring)
accounts for how the castle town rudinn who calls it [PLAYER]town heard that name from somebody else
accounts for their ability to conceal a section of their basic, prophecy-relevant abilities (fire magic) from the player (cf noelle and snowgrave)
accounts for their omnipresence across dark worlds and immunity from petrification (the menus are a constant and Necessary for the player to play their role)
accounts for their nature as an 'impossibility' without classifying them as something other than a dakrner (an identity central to their arc)
accounts for their fealty to the player and crazy strong conviction in darkners' purposes beginning and ending with their Utility
accounts for their feelings of being Within a story, known as The Prophecy, and their fixation on 'the ending'
accounts for how 'everything will fall apart' if they stop following 'the rules' (they *are* The Rules made manifest)
accounts for their C5 Spritesheet Touhou Kinassignment being *ran yakumo* (a shikigami most commonly described as a living autonomous computer, who notably was created using a beast spirit as a base and *does* have strong fealty to her master despite her autonomy but has to be disciplined to be kept in line)
ties into their growing sympathy and affection for kris as an independent individual
i dunno i just think this is a better working framework than any other i've seen

fuck its Already like 100 am
people are joking that mr radiation updated the game to strike back at the 'image_friend fraud allegations' but really it's because you all didn't appreciate how singularly important Pink is. the mew mew girl. the kissy cutie herself. so he had to have Mew Mew from Mew Mew Kissy Cutie start moving like
honestly the strongest argument for transgender ralsei theorising is that if people weren't meant to take any of those scenes that way Toby 'Strengthened imagery while maintaining a scene's intended meaning' Fox would've meddled with his game already
the big 'various minor script fixes' patch dropped and while everyone else focuses on the insane pink lorebomb i will confirm that this did not in fact change ralsei's menu pronouns. it's real.

i made this i guess
