In light of the Maverick’s Invitational and the big swells along the West Coast and Hawaii today - the image that triggered the big wave movement. This photo of Buzzy Trent, George Downing, and Woody Brown surfing Makaha was published in California papers in 1953. Soon after, there was a migration of mainlanders to Oahu and an infatuation that has only grown since.
