In Mario Kart 8, starting the race and driving to the left of the markers on Mount Wario until the cliff will cause Lakitu to eventually deposit the driver all the way at the beginning of the track, as seen in the footage.

The entire distance driven this way is in an in-between state where it is not out of bounds enough for Lakitu to appear but not in-bounds enough to count as a reset spot for Lakitu. As such, the only valid reset spot was at the beginning, causing him to undo 25 seconds of racing progress.

Note also that due to the long Lakitu animation, Toadette manages to briefly clip out of bounds near the end as well.
